I jumped into the lake letting the water adopt me. My brother was really getting on my nerves lately. So, it was time to visit Mr Dog.
My legs transformed into a tail, and I grew scales across my neck and arms. My hair became instantly combed and lined with seashells.
I flapped my tail happily. Not many mermaids could disguise as human, but it was a talent passed down from my great grandma. Erial.
I dived for the bottom of the lake, going faster with each swish of my tail. I passed a school of guppies learning English. I waved to them. No, I legit sent a wave at them! Like I always did to annoy the grumpy old teacher. Mr Chuck. The guppies rode it like mini surfers, and I couldn't help but think of my brother. He would've loved this, but no what he did was unforgivable. I kept swimming down.
"Aroooo" A whale sang and I couldn't help but sing along. He noticed me immediately and together we sang the chorus of 'Under the Sea'. I laughed when we finished it, and gave him a high five. Or rather a high flipper.
My brother and I used to sing that song everyday, but I was still mad at him!
I swam quickly, trying to escape the feeling of doubt buried deep in my stomach.
"Dog!" I yelled. "Where are you!"
"Eh?" A voice said behind me, "oh oh it's you again, hello dear"
I spun around to get a look at the creature. A great white shark with pointy sharp teeth, and a very sneaky smile was swimming figure eights. His gray flippers moved back and forth as the tides swept left and right all around him.
"Dog!" I cried, "what are you doing?"
"Figure dancing!" He said calmly as if it were a perfectly normal thing to do.
I stared at the shark, "but Dog? You can't dance with those flippers!" The shark looked down at his tiny flippers. "Gee you kids sure know how to bum a shark out, don't you are Butch figure dance?"
The mention of my brother made my stomach do a dance of its own. "We aren't talking right now."
Dog stopped figure dancing.
Then started doing ballet.
Now for anyone who has never seen a shark do ballet before, it is quite a strange sight.
He stood upright on his tail. Stretched his flippers to the sky, and spun round and round like a fidget spinner.
"Do you mind if I practice my pirouette while you tell me?"
I sighed, "well you see I'm very mad at my brother, because earlier today, we were eating lunch, and Butch literally stole the last cookie! I wanted that! So now I'm never talking to him again."
Dog did an elegant leap, only he must've forgotten he was underwater, because instead of coming back down, he just stayed there. "Oh dear" he said. "Well er, maybe your brother was just hungry, we all are sometimes" He flashed me a toothy grin. "I totally get it"
Dog swam towards me to pat me on the back with his giant flipper. "Give your brother some grace, you guys are best friends, and I know you miss him."
I sighed, he was right, I did miss him. "Ok thanks Dog, I'll go talk to him, but you should really put your dance moves on a leash, it's quite funny."
Dog looked at me unimpressed, "yes yes a leash, because my name is Dog, haha very funny kid. Now go make up with Butch, and maybe get me a snack while you're at it."
The end.
