I guess you could say I've learned a lot of morals and themes in my life. Including when I was seven and it was my first day of the second grade. It was a pretty traumatic for me at the time because of the fact that I had no friends in my class. I thought I'd turn into one of those girls who everyone calls a geek as they walked by.
So when we finally had free time, I gathered up all of the courage I had and snuck my 3 foot self out of the classroom in search for one of my friends rooms. I didn't exactly think my plan through because by the time I found one of my friends, I was caught red handed by my not so nice teacher.
And let me tell you she did not go easy on me.
When school was finally over I was extremely terrified how my parents would react to what I did. And after thinking it through for 15 minutes on the bus ride home, I decided I'd tell them first before my teacher did. I'd do the right thing.
Sadly, as it turned out after me confessing to my parents and my parents grounding me and telling me repeatedly how I should be more like my sister Grace. Who, even at that time was beyond perfect. My teacher never ended up calling my parents like she had told me. I didn't realize later that this was probably her intention but as I stood there getting in trouble for something I didn't think was that bad, I learned one thing.
Don't tell your parents everything.
I've been following by that phrase for the past 11 years.
So as I walk out the door to the house I spent most of my life in, I don't have any regrets not telling my parents that I'm leaving to go on my journey and become a vagabond.
