MARCH 2017
5 years earlierOCTAVIA KELSEY ALWAYS ENJOYED late night walks through LA, despite how dangerous and unnerving it sounded. There was something about the usually bustling city becoming almost silent in the late hours of the evening that brought her an unexplainable sense of peace, allowing her to enjoy the scenery and clear her head before she had to go to the studio the next day.
It took the girl a while to realize that she wanted to be a dancer— a choreographer, to be exact. She'd considered multiple career choices and worked different jobs before she came to her final decision, dipping her toes in different potential professions as the years went on, but nothing ever stuck.
Once she reached twenty, she was sure she was just gonna have to sell drugs for the rest of her life or something.
However, shockingly, that wouldn't be the case. She remembered it like it was yesterday; standing in the kitchen with her little sister, Piper, in their shared apartment as the younger girl snagged a piece of bacon off the plate. It was Piper's second week of University— finally a psychology major, just like she'd always dreamed of being since she was in middle school.
That was the only thing Octavia really envied about her baby sister— she'd always been sure of what she wanted to do in life, and she would now be going after her Doctorate for the many years to come.
Piper had been watching her older sister dance along to the song that was blaring through the speakers, a goofy smile on her face as her brows raised in a teasing interest. "Sick moves, 'Tavia. Ever thought of becoming a professional?"
Octavia looked over her shoulder, glaring playfully at the younger girl before flipping a piece of bacon over in the pan. "Oh, hush," she retorted with a grin. "Let me shake ass in peace."
Piper shook her head, a chuckle leaving her lips. "No, I'm serious. You're always dancing or coming up with something of your own. Remember when you forced me to learn the 'Bad Romance' dance when we were little?"
"Okay, first of all, I didn't force you," Octavia replied, turning and pointing the fork she was using to flip the meat at her sister. "I taught you."
"You forcefully taught me."
Octavia shrugged, "I was a strict teacher."
Piper snapped her fingers, pointing at her sister. "See? You were meant for this. Why don't you look into it?"
"What? Being a dancer?"
"Choreographer is the correct term, but yeah, a professional dancer."
Octavia scoffed playfully, a look of curiosity flashing across her face for a split second before she turned back to the stovetop. She had always liked dancing— she often took joy in learning dances from concerts and music videos just for the fun of it, and even more whenever she could show it to someone or teach them. It was a career she'd never considered, seeing it as more of a hobby than anything else.
