Jenna walked into the Great Hall, the aroma of delicious food wafting through the air, making her stomach growl with hunger. After a long day of classes, she felt utterly drained. She plopped down next to her friends at the table, who were deep in conversation. Nick, Faye, Emily, and Blaise looked up as she approached.

"Hey, guys," Jenna greeted, her voice a bit more tired than she intended.

"Hey, Jenna!" they all chimed back in unison.

"I'm starving," she said, glancing around for food.

Nick raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Say, why does Jack keep staring at you from over there like he's lost in thought?"

Jenna's gaze followed Nick's finger to where Jack sat in a corner, his eyes fixed on her with an intense expression.

"Long story," Jenna replied, sighing. "We broke up."

Nick's eyes widened. "What? You and Jack? When did this happen?"

"Just now," Jenna replied, shaking her head. "And you're part of the reason."

"What? Me?" Nick looked genuinely confused. "What did I do?"

"He wanted me to choose between him and you," Jenna explained, her frustration bubbling to the surface. "And then I caught him with Layla. He's been cheating on me this whole time."

A shocked silence fell over the table, and Jenna's friends exchanged glances.

"Wow," Blaise finally said. "That's... brutal."

"Hey, guys, I'm okay, really," Jenna reassured them, trying to sound more upbeat than she felt.

Nick clenched his fists, anger flashing in his eyes. "I swear, I'm going to kill him."

Jenna placed a hand on Nick's arm, her tone firm. "No, you're not, Nick. That won't solve anything."

Faye leaned in, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Speak of the devil," she said, nodding toward the entrance.

At that moment, Jack approached their table, his demeanor tense and determined. "Hey, Jenna," he said, his voice low. "Can we talk? Just the two of us?"

Nick shot up from his seat, blocking Jack's path. "You've got some nerve coming here, don't you?" he spat.

Jenna looked at Nick, her heart racing. "It's okay, Nick," she said, trying to calm him down.

"No, it's not okay!" Nick replied, his voice rising. "Jack, you're not welcome here. Just leave."

Jack stood his ground, his expression unyielding. "I'm not going anywhere until I talk to Jenna."

Nick took a step forward, his fists clenched. "Back off, Jack. She doesn't want to talk to you."

Jenna's heart pounded as the tension in the air thickened. She felt torn between her anger toward Jack and the strange pull she still felt toward him. "Guys, please!" she interjected, raising her hands. "Just let me handle this."

Jack took a deep breath, his eyes pleading. "Jenna, please. I know I messed up, but I want to explain."

Nick shot Jenna a look of disbelief. "Are you seriously considering talking to him? After everything?"

Jenna held her ground, forcing herself to meet Jack's gaze. "You had your chance, Jack. You made your choice."

"But I didn't mean for it to happen," he said, desperation lacing his words. "I thought I could fix things with you and... I messed up. I need to tell you the truth."

"Enough with the excuses," Jenna snapped, her voice steady. "You betrayed my trust. What more is there to say?"

Jack's face fell, but Jenna felt a flicker of compassion within her. Despite everything, a part of her still cared. She could see the turmoil in his eyes, but she knew she had to stand firm.

Nick moved closer, protective. "You've said enough, Jack. It's time to go."

With a heavy heart, Jenna shook her head. "Nick, wait." She took a deep breath, trying to keep her composure. "Just let me hear him out."

Jack looked momentarily surprised but relieved. "Thank you, Jenna. I just need a moment."

"Make it quick," Nick warned, his voice low and fierce.

Jenna felt the weight of their friends' eyes on her, the tension between them palpable. As Jack stepped closer, Jenna knew that whatever happened next would define not only her relationship with him but also her own self-worth.

Jenna took a deep breath, bracing herself as Jack stepped closer. The Great Hall buzzed around them, the noise of chatter and laughter fading into the background as she focused solely on him.

"What do you want to say?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady despite the whirlwind of emotions inside her.

Jack's eyes softened, and for a moment, she saw a glimpse of the boy she once loved. "I messed up, Jenna. I really did. Layla... it was a mistake. I didn't think about how it would hurt you. I was stupid and selfish."

Jenna crossed her arms, feeling a mix of anger and pity. "You think that makes it okay? You chose her, Jack. You didn't even think to tell me the truth until I caught you."

"I was scared," he admitted, running a hand through his hair, a gesture that had always reminded her of the way he used to be so carefree. "I didn't want to lose you, so I thought if I could keep it all under wraps, everything would be fine."

"Fine? Nothing is fine!" Jenna's voice rose slightly, drawing glances from nearby students. She lowered it, realizing they were in a public space. "You destroyed everything we had, and for what? A fling?"

"It wasn't like that," Jack said, frustration creeping into his tone. "It was just a stupid moment, and I regret it every day since. Can't we at least talk about this?"

Jenna shook her head, her heart pounding. "What's there to talk about? You've made your choice. I'm not going to be the second option or the person you run back to when things don't work out."

Jack's face fell, and she could see the guilt washing over him. "I know I don't deserve your forgiveness, but I'm asking for a chance to explain. Just hear me out."

"Why should I?" she challenged, feeling her resolve harden. "You didn't think about my feelings when you were with her. What makes you think I should give you the time of day now?"

"Because I still care about you," he said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "I always have. I was just too stupid to see it until now."

Jenna felt the weight of his words, her heart warring with her mind. Part of her wanted to believe him, but the other part felt betrayed and furious. "Care about me? You had a funny way of showing it."

"I know," he said, looking down for a moment. When he met her eyes again, there was a newfound intensity. "But I want to make it right. I'm willing to do whatever it takes."

Jenna paused, the sincerity in his voice tugging at her heartstrings. But just then, she remembered how he had betrayed her trust and the nights she had cried over him. "I can't do this right now, Jack," she said firmly.

"Jenna, please—"

"Stop!" she interrupted, holding up a hand. "Just stop. I don't want to hear any more excuses. I need space."

Jenna walked back to her friends and threw herself onto the bench with a relieved sigh. "Thank goodness I'm rid of him," she groaned, the tension of the day finally starting to ease.

Nick grinned at her. "I know what will distract you: let's hit the new club in Hogsmeade on Friday."

Faye chimed in, her eyes lighting up. "I've heard so many good things about that place! The atmosphere is supposed to be incredible, and the music—oh, the music is supposed to be amazing!"

Jenna felt a flutter of excitement in her stomach, a welcome change from the heaviness of the past few days. "That does sound fun," she admitted, a smile creeping onto her face. "I could definitely use a break."

"Count me in," Emily added, her smile bright. "It'll be great to see everyone and dance. We can forget all about our troubles, even if it's just for a night."

"Perfect," Nick said, leaning back and crossing his arms. "We'll make a night of it.
