Day 1

"Hey Corin! What are you up to, here to rent a video, or did you need one of us?" Miss Proxy asked.

"O-Oh, Miss Proxy! Sorry, I was just on the phone, a-and I needed somewhere in the shade, and it's a little hot out and you have AC, and-"

"I-it's fine, Corin, hehe... you're a friend, stay here as long as you need. Who are you texting?" She asked, trying to snoop at my phone.

"Miss Ellen! I just- I... I-I need to ask her a favor..."

"Oh? Good to see you getting more confident!" Miss Proxy said.

"W-Well, if I'm honest, I didn't really feel too confident... b-but you said I seemed more confident, s-so I'll take your word for it!"

"I see, hehe... wait, what's with the suitcase?"
"That's what I'm on the phone for; the power to my place went out, and I just need to ask Miss Ellen if I can stay over for a few days..."

"Oh, good luck with that! If she says no, you can crash here for a bit."

"O-Oh, thank you! I appreciate the offer very much, Miss Proxy..."

"Of course. Anything for a friend."

"Th-Thank you- um... I'll just be a moment, if that's ok..."

"Of course!" She walked away.

Miss Proxy always makes me feel a bit braver; I think she was just what I needed.

I walked out of the way of the videos and opened my contacts.

Miss Ellen was right at the top, not because I texted her, but because of the unsent draft...

I didn't know how to ask her; she just moved into a new apartment, and I couldn't possibly intrude, but I don't want to take up the Proxies space too...

I steeled myself to finish my drafted message to Ellen.

"Good afternoon Miss Ellen! I'm sorry for the short notice, but I have a favor to ask you... If it's alright, I'd like to request to stay over at your place from Thursday (tonight) to Sunday until the power at my building comes back. I know that you just settled in and you might not be prepared to host a guest, but I promise to be as out of the way as possible, and I'll do any work you need doing! I'm also on Sixth Street right now, so if there's anything you needed, don't hesitate to ask!"

My finger floated over the 'Send' button for a minute or two, until I noticed Ellen typing something.

I panicked and just hit send.

She backspaced, then continued.

Now I'm having second thoughts... maybe I should've just accepted Miss Proxy's offer... I don't want her to think less of me cause I'm asking so much of her...

My phone vibrated. I couldn't even look at the message. What if she scolded me? She's done that before... why wouldn't she do it again? Of course she would! I was so stupid! I asked her for way too much, I-

"Hey. You get my message?"

"Ah!" I almost dropped my phone as Miss Ellen snuck up on me.

"You ok? You're more jittery than usual. And that's saying something," She said, crossing her arms, looking right at me with those sharp eyes of hers...

"I-I'm ok, I'm ok, I'm just tired..."

"Oh, ok. We can head back then. Just let me go find this movie first."

"W-We? Head back? Where?"

"Huh? You read my message, right?"

"U-Uh..."
