THE LOG
15th May
For most people, it's history now. Something to look back on, to tell stories about in the dead of night. Rumors to be whispered in the dim glow of streetlights, unaware of prying ears.
But for me, for us, it's not. It never can be.
Because we are just kids that grew up too fast. Learning how to read turned into learning how to fight. Nighttime stories of ghosts and dragons turned into alerts of them getting closer.
And they're always getting closer, following us like a looming shadow.
Always three steps ahead.
Last night there was a storm. Nothing too crazy, just endless rain and thunder. But as the lightning lit up the forest and the thunder crashed and howled, I couldn't help but think back to the night the world stopped spinning.
It was apocalyptic. The streets were barren, trees ripped out of the ground by the wind littering it, like a child had been playing with its toys. Floods rampaged through cities and towns, destroying anything that got in its path.
Washing away homes and erasing memories.
I mean, no one was prepared for the damage it caused. Half the world didn't even know that something so intense, so powerful, could actually happen.
But it did. And we can't change that. They can't change that, no matter how hard they try.
And they are trying, aren't they? There's more and more talk about how humanity has rebuilt the world and less about the disaster that plagued this dystopia.
It's almost scary to think how easily people can be convinced. How easily people's morals can be manipulated to favor them.
Everyone's just a puppet, having a role to play in this sick, twisted version of reality. Even us.
That's why I'm starting this. Whatever this is. Someone needs to fight back. Of course, if we fight back, we might lose. But if we don't, then we've already lost.
After all, we all have secrets. Stories to tell before it's too late.
It's just a matter of who speaks first.
