I pulled the tall wooden doors open, my hands touching the rough handles. The doors creaked as they opened. Inside there were 6 dresses. Two were fancy laced long dresses. One was black and a dark purple and it had long sleeves. The dress, when worn, had a small overlay on the bottom leaving the back to drag along the floor behind me. The other dress was a light pink colour. It had a laced flower in the middle and short laced sleeves. Two more of the dresses were long day dresses that were slightly less fancy. One was a mid length dress that comes down to my mid shins. It was a cream coloured dress. It had a ribbon that was also cream coloured. The last dress was a big ball gown. I had only ever worn it once when I was dragged along to one of my dad's work party's.

I carefully grabbed the metal hanger that the cream dress was on. I wandered over to my bed and placed it to one side away from the scrunched up sheets. I stood there for a moment admiring the dress and running my fingers gently over the button clasps on the back. I drifted back to the wardrobe and shut the doors. Next to the wardrobe there was a wooden chest. Unlike the wardrobe the chest had a smooth oak surface. It had metal corners and a metal clasp in the middle. I placed my hands onto the cold smooth metal clasp. I slowly pushed the heavy lid struggling for a few seconds before I eventually rested the lid against the wall.

Inside the chest, there were 3 corsets, 4 pairs of gloves, 2 bonnets, 3 pairs of tights, 2 pairs of long socks, and some metal boneing and dress liners. There were also some spare under garments. One of the corsets were one of those new fancy fully boned corsets. I picked up the white wool socks and a pair of white silk gloves. I took these over to my bed and layed them out next to the dress I picked out. I stood there again for a moment; my eyes drifted over the materials. I turned back and slowly shut the chest. My fingers lingering over the cold metal clasp again.
