you pushed open the door again to see the son of your mom's friend, kunigami rensuke.
kunigami nodded at you. "nice to see you again, y/n."
you chuckled and waved back. "you too, rensuke!" ignoring the giggling of his mom and yours, you went into the kitchen to see what your dad was cooking for dinner.
"ooh, we're having cantonese fried rice?" you asked in excitement, immediately taking a big whiff once you got in the kitchen. "smells amazing!"
"you got it, n/n!" your dad responded, ruffling your hair affectionately before using his favourite wooden spatula to mix around the fried rice.
after a while, you were all seated around the table, ready for dinner. "this is delicious!" you said between taking bites of food.
"it really is!" rensuke's mom agreed.
"what is this for, anyways?" you asked curiously. "the dinner, i mean." you quickly corrected yourself, realising you sounded quite whiny or that you didn't want them here. "not that i don't want you guys here, of course, but i'm just wondering."
"we're just having one last dinner together before rensuke," his mom stops to ruffle her son's hair, earning a sigh but also a chuckle from him. "leaves for this soccer program called blue lock!"
"oh." you said, trying to act happy about it even though you were thinking about your denied request. "yay! good job!" you trailed off after that, looking down at your food and eating it again, but this time, much slower.
m/n noticed your distant gaze as you picked at your food. "n/n tried to get in, but her request got denied." she explained as rensuke and his mom looked at you curiously but sympathetically.
"it's alright, blue lock is a boys' program anyways." rensuke says quickly, standing up and walking over to you to give you a quick hug. "you can always join another one that includes girls."
"thanks.." you say sighing, before munching down the rest of your food and standing up, pushing your chair back. "excuse me, i'm done so i'm going to go to my room for a bit." you quickly leave the table.

in your room, you sat down on your bed and buried your face into the pillow, taking deep breaths even though the pillow was plugging your nose and mouth. suddenly, you heard 3 knocks by the door.
"n/n? can i come in?" rensuke opens the door, eyes widening when he sees your distressed state. he quickly jogs over the entirety of your room to sit beside you, gently taking your head to rest it on his shoulder instead. "what's wrong?"
"i-i just wanted to be better at soccer, but..." you showed him the email miserably. "they don't and apparently never will accept girls in their program."
rensuke's golden eyes narrowed as he quickly read though the short but harsh email. putting an arm around your shoulder, he said, "don't worry, i'll give that ego man a piece of my mind when i see him."
you look at him gratefully. "thank you." you whisper before leaning onto his shoulder again. he blushes slightly when he realises you're still leaning on him, your breath on his shoulder.
"make me another promise." you said suddenly, alert.
"yes?" he asked curiously, still holding onto you with his muscular arm around your shoulder.
"win." you looked at him seriously, right up into his eyes. "win, and become the best striker in the world."
"of course, n/n. i promise."

(a/n: will be using 3rd person for the rest of the chapter, hope you're enjoying the fanfic so far!)
after walking back outside to apologise, y/n nodded at rensuke, reminding him to keep their newly made promise.
"don't forget." she whispered to him as she hugged him goodbye, not expecting to see him for the next few months or even a year: the program's invitation letter didn't specify how long the strikers would be gone.
"i won't." he hugged her tightly as he responded despite their size difference.
as he left, y/n couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. not only was she not allowed to see her best friend for who knows how long, but she couldn't even find the motivation to play soccer anymore. sighing, she took out her phone and saw the huge amount of messages.

(a/n: idk how long the first selection was so imma put 1 week, dont come at me pls)
1 week later...
y/n were checking your phone while sitting in the living room when she saw she had a new email. it was from blue lock, aka ego jinpachi. fully intending to delete it, she clicked onto the email but curiosity got the better of her. after a quick skim of the new email's contents she gasped and rolled off the couch while doing so.
"y/n? you alright, sweetie?" called her mom from the kitchen, busily washing dishes from that night's dinner.
"i'm fine.. i got a new email from blue lock. you know, the soccer program i wanted to enter but they declined my request? the one that i sent an email to a few weeks ago, and the same one that rensuke went to? that one. it says.." she paused for a second, glancing at the screen one more time to make sure what she read was correct. "it says they're... inviting me back in."
