"liberty and justice for all"
-
i sighed before getting up. i grabbed some clothes and got ready in the bathroom. erik was still asleep by the time i was done.
i was going to ask him before i do what im about to do, but i know he would tell me not to. and how is justice served if we stay quiet?
i put on my shoes and went out the door. i got in my moms red cadillac and drove to the police station. my plans were sweaty leaving marks on the steering wheel.
erik warned me last night how powerful his father was and that if he told someone, his dad would kill him. i knew the risk i was taking by going to the police, but i wasn't going to let his dad hurt him nor was i going to hold back the truth.
when i arrived at the police station, i waited in my car for a moment. i turned down my stereo and took the keys out of my car. i took a deep breath before opening and closing the door behind me.
i walked up to the desk, feeling my heart quicken and my legs shake. "i need to report a crime." i said to the front desk lady. "uhm... okay? what's the crime?" she asked, seeming a bit thrown off.
"uhm... my boyfriend..." i swallowed. "his dad is... abusing and..." i hesitated. she looked at me with a raised brow. "his dad is molesting him." i finally got out.
the front desk lady stared at me with a blank expression before speaking up. "is that all?" she asked. i furrowed my brows. "is that all?" i repeated her question. she made it sound as if it wasn't a big deal what i had just told her. it seemed like she didn't believe it.
"yes ma'am. is that all? do you need anything else?" she asked again with the same blank expression. "no.. no! w- what are you not doing to do anything?!" i asked breaking out into anger. "i just told you my boyfriend is being molested by his father and your only reaction is is that all?!" i scoffed.
"what happened to liberty and justice for all?" i rolled my eyes. "this is unbelievable." i said after the front desk lady didn't respond. i grabbed my keys off the desk and walked out of the police station.
i got into my convertible and sighed as i slid into the passenger seat. i ran my fingers through my hair, completely lost of hope and feeling terrible for erik.
thats when a curly haired woman walked up to my car. she had sunglasses on and a cigarette between her index and middle finger. "i heard what happened in there." she said as she stopped when she was in front of my car.
she took a puff of her cigarette before blowing the cloud of smoke out. "the justice system is so unfair these days." she sighed and shook her head. "tell me about it." i scoffed in response.
"leslie abramson." she stated her name as she stuck out her hand. "sam nadia." i said, accepting her handshake. "your that criminal defense attorney from tv right?" i asked with furrowed brows trying to place where i had heard that name before.
"yes." she nodded with a smile. "and i want to help you."
