Luna took a deep breath, letting the calm of Ms. Margaret's house settled her nerves. The wooden shelves lined with books and the faint scent of lavender created a serene environment, easing her tired mind. She'd been in Ms. Margaret's house since five, focusing diligently on math problems in preparation for her upcoming exams. As she glanced at the clock-nearly seven. Her thoughts drifted back to the night before.
She had messaged Taehyung late, frustrated and stuck on a difficult math question. Even though she didn't want to disturb him, he responded almost immediately, as if he'd been waiting for her message. His calm, steady texts guided her through each step,
"Alright, start by breaking it down," he had texted. "Look at each part separately, and don't rush-you'll see how it fits." Even over text, his words had brought a warmth and focus she couldn't seem to find on her own. By the end, her frustration had faded into relief."You really made it feel so simple Taehyung. You are amazing! "
"I know, when the person is you to tell me." he replied, softly as always. "I'd make it easier if we weren't separated by screens." His playful talks were also added in the end.
Now, that memory brought a small smile to her face as she refocused on her work. Ms. Margaret, sitting across from her, noticed the change in Luna's expression and gave her an encouraging smile while sliding over a new problem.
"This one's a bit tricky, but I know you can handle it. Just keep focused on the structure, alright?" she said, her voice calm and reassuring.
Luna nodded, feeling her fatigue but determined to keep going. Ms. Margaret's steady guidance reminded her a bit of Taehyung's last night explanation of the most important math of this chapter. She again diverted her mind to her maths almost which was like the same as last nights one. She realises that Ms. Margaret is really a good teacher for math as she knows which math is the most tricky and important. Ms. Margaret seemed to understand how to keep her on track without overwhelming her, something she deeply appreciated.
After another few minutes, Luna handed over her completed work, watching Ms. Margaret's careful gaze as she reviewed each step. "Well done, Luna," Ms. Margaret said, looking up with a satisfied smile. "You handled the difficult parts well."
Luna's relief was clear, though her doubts lingered. Ms. Margaret seemed to pick up on it. "Is something weighing on you?" she asked gently.
Luna hesitated. "Umm....I'm just... worried about the Gaokao. My last exams didn't go as well as I hoped, and my father was... ummm disappointed. I don't want to let him down again." She spoke with a nod, trying to understand her father's concern for her studies.
Ms. Margaret's expression softened. "I know Mr. Han is strict about your studies, but believe me, he's proud of you-even if he doesn't show it." She tried to put some positivity in her and forced her a smile.
Of course Ms. Margaret knows her father's temper at this point. Not only her but also the other teachers in her school after the last half yearly examination's result was published. Nothing much... it's just her father, being the honourable donor of the school created some chaos in the school, almost shaking the whole damn school because his daughter was positioned 16th .Luna nodded but still felt her father's expectations pressing down as she got some painful and terrifying flashbacks of that time when her father got the marksheet.
"I just... if I could get to the top of my class, maybe he'd understand how hard I'm trying." She replied biting her lips looking down.
Ms. Margaret covered Luna's hand in a comforting gesture. "You have six months to prepare, Luna. You're focused, and you have the drive. But don't let the pressure take away your joy for learning. You're doing wonderfully."
