The month passed in a flurry of laughter, anticipation, and love that seemed to fill every corner of Whitford Estate. Everyone in the family had warmed with excitement as Sophia's due date drew closer, their hearts brimming with eagerness for Liam and Sophia's child to arrive. Evelyn and Robert were constantly at Sophia's side, sharing stories, pampering her, and watching with amused smiles as Liam meticulously ensured she wanted for nothing. Even James had grown protective, watching his younger brother as he fussed over Sophia with pride and devotion.
Finally, the day arrived. Liam drove Sophia to the hospital, his hand tightly gripping hers, his nerves barely in check. As she was taken into the delivery room, he lingered outside, every fibre of his being tuned to the room beyond the door.
"Don't worry, son," Evelyn reassured him, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "She's strong. She'll be just fine."
He nodded, but his worry remained. "I know, Mom, but she's... she's so tiny. I don't want to lose her, not again. She's carrying our child at such a young age, with a strength that amazes me, yet still worries me. I just want her and our baby to be safe." He paused, his voice softening as his gaze drifted, almost lost in his thoughts. "She's the light in my world, the heartbeat that makes everything worth it. I can't imagine a life without her, or our little one. I want to be the one who keeps them safe, who makes sure nothing ever dims her light."
"She'll be fine," James said with a steadying hand on his shoulder. "Sophia's tougher than we all thought. She'll get through this."
The hours ticked by slowly, the anticipation growing with every minute. Robert paced the hallway, repeatedly checking with the doctor, while Evelyn did her best to calm Liam, though she, too, was silently brimming with excitement.
After what felt like an eternity, a faint, delicate cry filled the hallway. Liam's heart leaped. His eyes locked on Evelyn's, who was smiling with tears brimming in her eyes.
The door swung open, and a nurse stepped out, cradling a small bundle in a soft blanket. "Congratulations, Mr. Whitford. You have a son."
A surge of emotions hit Liam as he gazed at the tiny face nestled within the blanket. A shock of dark hair framed the baby's delicate features, and he was blinking up at the world with curious, wide blue eyes—just like his own.
Liam reached out, his hands trembling, as he took his son for the first time. He cradled the boy against his chest, his throat tight as he pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead.
"Welcome to the world, little one," he murmured. "You're safe. You're so loved already." His gaze softened, and he felt a tear escape as he whispered, "You're a blessing. Our miracle."
Overwhelmed, he glanced back at the nurse. "And Sophia? Is she—"
"She's a fighter," the nurse replied, smiling. "She's doing very well. You can go see her now."
Liam carried his son into the room, and his heart swelled as he saw Sophia lying on the hospital bed, looking tired but radiant. Her face lit up at the sight of him, and tears sparkled in her eyes as she gazed at their baby.
"Look, my love," Liam whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Here's your little fighter. Just like you." He bent down, placing a soft kiss on her lips as he passed the baby gently into her waiting arms.
Sophia held their son close, her smile wide and eyes damp as she looked down at the tiny bundle. "He's beautiful," she whispered. "Our little one..."
"He is," Liam replied, brushing a tear from her cheek. "And he has the strongest mother in the world."
Evelyn, Robert, and James filed into the room quietly, their faces glowing with pride and love. One by one, they gathered around to greet the new family member, each taking a turn to hold him.
"My grandchild," Evelyn whispered in awe, holding him gently. "Liam, James, I raised you both as best as I could, but now... this little one, he's a new start. Our future."
After everyone had held the baby, Liam returned to Sophia's side, gently taking her hand. She was tired, her face pale, but her eyes were bright with happiness.
"Are you all, right?" he asked softly, his voice filled with concern.
"I am," she replied, a faint smile on her lips. "A little sore, but it was worth it." Her eyes dropped to their son in his arms, and she chuckled softly. "But I'll warn you, Liam... I'm not sure I want to go through that again!"
Liam laughed, leaning close and pressing a playful kiss to her cheek. "Oh, but you will," he teased gently, his eyes glinting with mischief. "I want to see you like this all over again—with that radiant glow, growing round with our next child. And this time, I'll be with you every step of the way, making sure you're never alone."
Sophia blushed, smiling as he drew her into his arms protectively, shielding her from the amused glances of the rest of the family. Evelyn and Robert exchanged knowing smiles as Liam kissed Sophia again, this time with a gentle reverence.
In that moment, surrounded by family and filled with love, Sophia and Liam knew their story was only just beginning.
