Think I'm more alive, somehow
I feel like myself right now

It was Maeve's birthday, for the first time in years she was genuinely excited to celebrate it. It was something she didn't know she could've felt - happiness over a birthday? Her birthday.

Maybe it was because she had Taylor and Gracie there or maybe because she didn't have any pressure over celebrating it - or both.

That's beside the point though, Maeve was happy to celebrate her birthday and it was a big step for her.

Gracie had stayed the night previously so that she could make her sister breakfast in bed - although Maeve denied needing that, Gracie didn't care and stayed the night anyway.

For most siblings that would be a lot, spending one day together, then the night, then the next day before getting on a plane and flying to LA and then spending yet another day together and probably a night.

But not for Maeve and Gracie, they've always been so close, they could spend a week trapped in a room together and they'd be fine with it. Genuinely fine with it.

And it's always been like that since they were little, they begged their parents to be able to share a room until Maeve was 13. That was just their dynamic, no matter how much they joked, they never could hate each other.

And every birthday Gracie would spend the night before and after, when they were both living at home and once they had moved out. It was a ritual at this point.

Maeve awoke to Gracie's forehead pressed against hers. She was forever grateful that her sister genuinely cared about her and respected her.

She wouldn't know what she would do without a sister like Gracie, though she'd never get that sappy to tell Gracie that.

As her sister's eyes fluttered open and met hers, a small smile spreads across her face. "Hi," she breathes out.

"Happy birthday, Evie," Gracie replies softly, "you're properly old now." She smirks softly as she says the last part.

"Hey, I'm not even 30 yet.." Maeve grumbles in response.

"The fact you have to state that, says everything I need to know, old lady." Gracie laughs quietly as she speaks.

Maeve buries her head into the crook of her sister neck before mumbling out, "please don't remind me."

"Oh, Maevie, you're not that old.. Just a little." Gracie runs her fingers through Maeve's hair softly.

Maeve lets out a small snort at her sister's remark, "well I should probably head to the gym or something now.. What's the time?"

"No, no absolutely not, Maeve," Gracie whines, "you promised you'd let me make you breakfast in bed."

"You can, just after I've gone to the gym," Maeve slowly pulls her head away from her sister as she sits up slowly.

"No, Maeve I won't let you!" Gracie tries to speak with a serious tone but she can quite contain her laugh as a little squeak of laughter exits her mouth. Gracie slowly climbs onto of her sister to stop her from being able to move.

"Don't you dare-"

"Oh I would, and I have," Gracie fully pulls herself onto Maeve, meaning the older woman literally could not move.

"Hoe.." Maeve grumbles in reply.

Gracie raises an eyebrow, "...hoe?"

Maeve looks up at her with the most serious face she could muster up before replying, "you heard me..."
