Taking a picture of all the people close to us
Head below the surface, almost never certain of the truth
I'm always, forever, running back to you

It was officially Maeve's birthday in a month - she had yet to even tell Taylor when her birthday was. Maeve wasn't a huge birthday person - she didn't really get why it was such a big thing for everyone else.

She'd been so preoccupied with her new album that she really didn't care this year. Most years she'd at least have a party but when Gracie asked Maeve declined her offer.

"I don't get why you don't wanna have a party - i know you're not the biggest fan of them but it's your birthday!" Gracie exclaims to her older sister.

Maeve lets out a scoff, rolling her eyes, "And I don't care about my birthday - c'mon, you know this, Gracie."

"Maeve - it's your birthday though, I care.."

"Gracie don't- I- fine."

"Fine?" Gracie quirks.

"Fine, you can throw me a birthday party..." Maeve murmurs.

Gracie grins ear to ear, "Fuck yeah! That's what I'm talkin' bout!"

"I'm still not happy about this."

"Yeah, yeah - I'm gonna go text Taylor about this!"

Maeve's eyes widened slightly. "Oh - why would you.. why would you do that..?"

"Why not..?" Gracie raises an eyebrow.

"She - she doesn't know my birthday - and it's not a big deal so it doesn't matter!" Maeve rushes the last part so her sister won't cut her off.

"She doesn't know your birthday? Maeve!" She scolds.

"But that doesn't matter!" Maeve rolls her eyes.

Gracie lets out a scoff, "Yes it does! Maeve she's your best friend! She needs to know your birthday!"

"Are you deadass mad at me for this?" Maeve questions, raising an eyebrow.

"No - I'm just confused why she doesn't know your birthday, I know you don't like to celebrate it - and you don't have to. But I feel like she deserves to know your birthday - you two are so close and- I just think you should tell her."

"Fine, I'll tell her, but you're not throwing a party, we'll just have a movie night or something."

"As long as you blow out candles on your cake, I'm not bothered on how you celebrate!"

"Ugh fine, you know you're insufferable, right?" Maeve pokes her younger sister's ribs, "how did I end up with such an annoying sister?"

Gracie squirms at the touch, "You're the insufferable one!" She snorts out.

"And you love it, you're my little baby sister!"

"I'm a grown adult Maev-"

"My baby sister! Who is a grown adult.." She murmurs the last part with a sarcastic tone.

"Thank you.. that was close enough I guess.." Gracie tries to compress her laugh and keep a straight face, though she can't so she lets out a soft giggle. "But I'm still gonna plan this with Taylor - and don't worry, I'll let ya tell her before."

A few hours later, Taylor had arrived at Maeve's apartment - Maeve had invited Taylor to come over to talk to her - well Gracie did.

"Tay! Hi, hi, hi!" Maeve giggles as her friend walks into the apartment.

"Hi, Evie!" Taylor smiles in response, "so why did ya want me to come over?"

"Uh - so basically it's my birthday in a month and even though I don't like my birthday, you and Gracie are allowed to plan it - though I gotta warn ya - it's not gonna be a big thing."

Taylor hums in response as she makes her way to Maeve's sofa - she gives Gracie a soft smile as she approaches her. "So not a big thing? I can make that work.. Do you have any ideas of what you want?"

Maeve follows her swiftly, rushing to the corner seat before Taylor could sit down there. "Aha!" The brunette snorts in victory.

"Asshole.." Taylor murmurs, ""Anyway - do you have any ideas?"

"Hm? Oh yeah - I'm thinking just a movie night with some friends - you two included of course.. But I've also got a family dinner in LA the night after we're planning for - so please please keep it chill." Maeve makes herself more comfortable on the sofa after she finishes talking, she throws a blanket over her and Taylor - the blanket isn't big enough to cover all three, besides Gracie had already covered herself with a blanket previously.

"Ah, okay - so maybe some wine? A few movies - probably Juno, Little Women, Scott Pilgrim and Lady Bird knowing you - and popcorn and also pizza, of course." Taylor replies with a little laugh as she lists off the movies.

"Ugh you know me too well, Swift!"

"Some could say she knows you 'all too well - ten minute version'" Gracie quirks, whispering the last part with a giggle.

"So insufferable..." Maeve whispers to Taylor with a sarcastic tone.

"Hey I heard that!" Gracie sulks.

"Good.." Maeve pats her sister on the head, like a dog.

All three women break character at the same time, they break out  into a fit of giggles, they all grasp onto each other for support, to not fall off the sofa.

Gracie had left about an hour ago - leaving the blonde and brunette alone together, when Taylor speaks up, "You know you don't have to have a party, right?"

"No, I know that - and I do want to have one - I just don't want it to be a huge thing. Ya know?"

Taylor hums in response, "You know you can just let me know on the day - even if some of your friends are here - that you don't wanna have a party anymore and I'll make them go."

"You'll make them, hm?" Maeve teases.

"Uh excuse me? Of course, you're my bestest friend, I'd do anything for you and I know that you know it!"

Maybe birthdays wouldn't be so bad for Maeve with Taylor by her side.
