Anastasia Castillo loved Halloween; it was the one night a year where she felt she belonged. If she had to pick a day to relive for the rest of her life, it would be Halloween. Stassy was the biggest believer a girl could be, since she was a child, the story's always intrigued her. She had read the story of the Sanderson sister more than all the other books she's read combined. Halloween was her day, she took it very seriously, and everybody knew that.

Max Dennison hated Halloween; whether it was the cold weather, overworn costumes, or overload of candy, Max hated every part of it. The thing he hated most about Halloween was the Sanderson story, he thought it was some stupid hocus pocus. Since the day he moved to Salem, 3 months ago, the story followed him wherever he went, it was a constant ringing in the teenage boys ear.

So when Anastasia and Max became friends at the beginning of the school year, it could be seen as a shock—the girl who loves Halloween like it's her child and the boy who thinks Halloween is a freak show. But isn't it funny, how the two opposite opinions could be exactly what brings two people together?
