However, no matter how hard I tried, I always failed using burst mode. Which I thought was humiliating... I was the only Spletzer on Moms side of the family to fail. When I couldn't... I had to punch a boulder.
We cut to a montage of Meggy training and growing up as she does so.
6 year old Meggy: (Tries to use Burst Mode) Dang it!!! (Runs to a nearby boulder) ... Hi, Rocky. (Starts punching it)
Alice: Keep trying, Meggy!!! You'll get it eventually!!!
Meggy: ... You're right, Grandma!!! I will!!!
Present Meggy: One of the training practices I did was dragging 5 empty train carts, which is around 425 tons.
Misty: WOW!!!
7 year old Meggy: (Tries to use Burst Mode again, but fails) Aw man... (Runs back to the boulder and keeps punching it)
We then cut to Alice teaching Meggy how to use weapons.
Alice: Usually, in most splatfests, you have weapons like the splattershot, splat bombs, roller, brush, etc. But what you can do is adapt and use your own environment as the weapon.
Eva: So, look around, Meggy. See any possible weapons?
Meggy: Hmm... (Looks around, but doesn't see anything being useful) ... Nothing...
Eva: ... You still need practice. (Runs at her)
Meggy: (Dodges near a stick and realizes) ... Use my environment... (Grabs the stick and blocks an oncoming attack)
Eva: WOAH!!!
Meggy: Hehehe! Gotcha!
Eva: Hehe. Well done, sweetie. Now, show what you can do with your usual arsenal.
Meggy: (Shoots at Eva while jumping)
Eva: (Dodges)
Meggy: (Throws a splat bomb)
Eva: (Gets hit) Oof!!!
Meggy: Hehehe!
Eva: ... Hehehe.
We then cut to 4 years later with an 11 year old Meggy.
Meggy: (Continues training)
Alice: Excellent work, Meggy. Now... would you like to learn something interesting?
Meggy: Sure, Grandma!!!
Alice: Very well. (Closes her eyes) Run around me.
Meggy: Ooh! Okay!!! (Runs fast)
Alice: (Senses the vibrations around her and feels the most behind her, then grabs Meggy) Gotcha
Meggy: Woah!!! How did you do that, Grandma?!
Alice: It's called the splatter sense.
We cut back to the present.
Misty: What's the splatter sense do, Mama?
Meggy: Well, it allows me to feel any and all vibrations by using my touch and hearing mainly. (Closes her eyes) I hear and see everything this way. You, your Dad exercising, and those ants in the wall.
Misty: ... Woah!!!
Meggy: Hehehe. Pretty heavy stuff, huh?
Misty: Yeah!!!
Meggy: Not just that. It also allows me to dodge and fight when blinded.
Flashback to a now 13 year old Meggy.
Alice: Let me see what you can do without seeing Meggy. (Throws sand in her eyes)
Meggy: AGH!!!
Alice: FEEL THE VIBRATIONS AND COUNTER THEM!!! (Runs towards her)
Meggy: (Feels the vibrations) ... Gotcha!!! (Counters her)
Alice: 😧... Hehe 😁 Well done, child.
Meggy: Hehehehehe 😁 (Gets the sand out of her eyes)
We then cut to a year later, where Meggy shows several splatfest weapons of her own to Alice
Meggy: What do you think, Grandma?
Alice: Ooh! Quite impressive, Meggy!!! What do they do?
Meggy: First, is the eel bomb. (Holds a splat bomb) It can give a small taser feel to the target. (Puts it down) The Snipershot allows me to shoot from a far and be precise with my aim. Then, my favorite weapon, the meg 3000. It allows me to blast a giant wave of energy at my opponent, knocking them off their feet.
Alice: Impressive!!!
We cut back to the present.
Misty: Wow!!!
Meggy; Yeah. I was kinda crazy back then.
Misty: ... Did you ever master the Burst mode, Mommy?
Meggy: ... Not yet, Sweetie. But I did eventually learn how to temporarily use it.
Misty: OOOOOOOOOH!!!
