(March 4, 2011, "At Moose Lake, Minnesota" - 4 days before Carnival ends)(Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!)
Blu: Ahhhhh!......
Blu jolts awake from a nightmare in his bedroom.
Blu: Dang it... Again with this…
He turns off his alarm, gets out of bed, and heads toward the bathroom. On his way out of the room, he runs into his adoptive mother, who’s freshly showered and drinking coffee.
Linda: Hey... sweetheart... I heard you screaming from your room. Is everything okay?
Blu: No, it’s nothing, Mom... I just... I just got startled by the alarm...
Linda: ...Oh, alright then... Go take a shower, and I'll get breakfast ready.
Blu: Sure, Mom...
He heads to the bathroom, washes up, gets dressed, and joins her at the breakfast table.
Linda: Come on... Let’s have breakfast.
Blu sits down, hiding his worry as he smiles while eating breakfast with his adoptive mother.
Linda: ...Sweetie, there’s a new batch of books arriving today. Help me put them on the shelves, okay?
Blu: Sure, Mom.
After finishing breakfast, they brush their teeth and head downstairs to open the bookstore. Linda begins setting up the computer, dusting the counter, and lifting the new box of books. Blu arranges the display table outside, dusts the shelves, and organizes the new books.
Once the bookstore opens, people start browsing and reading outside. By noon, the crowd thins, and Blu sits by the entrance reading an aerodynamics book.
Linda: Enjoy your book.
Customer: Thank you, Linda. (Customer leaves the store)
(Linda is on the phone) Linda: Yes, Mom. You know how busy I’ve been lately... Besides, Blu just graduated from college recently... Mom, I don’t need the money that badly. I can take care of myself, and we’ll see each other at Christmas anyway... Blu’s grown so much since you last saw him. You’ll be amazed. (Places a hot cocoa with cookies on Blu’s table)
Linda: Here’s your hot cocoa, sweetheart... just the way you like it... (Continues her phone call)
Blu looks at his hot cocoa and cookies.
Blu: Ah... The simple life... the American dream. Hot cocoa with marshmallows... 1... 2... 3... 4... 5... and 6.
He starts sipping his hot cocoa, reading his book, and drifts off into thought. . . . . Thud!
A snowball smacks against the shop window, making Blu jump slightly with an irritated expression.
Blu: Ugh, not those guys again... I swear, if they—
He stops when he recognizes two familiar bird-human girls.
Alice & Chloe: Hey there, bookworm~♪
Blu: Alice? Chloe!?!?!
Blu exclaims, rushing out of the store and hugging both of them warmly.
Alice: Hey, my little blue kitty~♪
Chloe: We thought we wouldn’t get to see you again~♪ Let's go inside and chat.
Blu: Sure!
The three head back into the bookstore.
Alice & Chloe: Hello, Mrs. Gunderson!
Linda: Oh, hey, girls~♪ What brings you both here?
Chloe: It’s a long weekend.
