Many years ago, I was taught that I had to cater to every need to the men in our culture. Anything we did had to be for them. That's why after I woke up on an abandoned pier, I was so scared for a man who saved my life. He was asking me what I needed and catered to me. Shock was written all over my face. To help me recover, he helped me walk to his house. What I didn't know then is that roles are reversed in the vampire community. When the man saw me dead on the pier, he knew that I had to become a vampire to save my life. After my recovery, we fell in love. At the time, I had no idea that he was the vampire king of the Blood Moon coven.
I gracefully walk down the stairs of my two-story mansion, carefully holding the train of my dress up, as I reach the bottom, and walk to the ballroom. I look around, seeing my best friend, Callie, flirting with a random guy. I silently giggle, shake my head and see my family waiting for me. My heals click as I walk to them.
"Valindra!" I heard Callie yelling my name. I stopped, turning to her. She quickly runs over and links our arms together. I hugged her neck and giggled.
"How are you, my love?" I ask the taller woman. She smiles and nods.
"I'm great. I'm so glad that you're holding this meeting. There are so many hot single vampires here." She rants as I let out a loud laugh.
"Callie! You're so bad." I smile, walk to the stage and step up to address the audience. I continue smiling until I hold my hand in the air, waiting for the vampires to quiet down. When they finally do, I start my speech.
"Vampires of Blood Moon Coven! May I have your attention? Humans have been murdering our family for centuries and it ends tonight. Fear not, because I have calculated a plan to stop our family from being murdered. I have invited the human representatives to come to have a meal with my husband and me. We do plan to find a compromise in these trying times. We only want peace with the humans." The crowd starts to murmur as I observe them. I sigh softly, knowing that the news would cause an uproar amongst my kingdom.
"Quiet! We will get everything cleared up and when we do, there will be no courting the humans. We must stay away from them to survive." I state clearly. "Nod if you understand."
I see everyone nod and I step down. As soon as I take the last step down, the wooden doors slam open and in walks the United States soldiers. The vampires stand frozen, afraid to move. I move towards the men slowly and suddenly notice that they are holding wooden oak steaks and metal crosses. I curtsy to them to show some respect, but the deputy general charges at me. With the steak held above his head and the cross held in front of him, he runs at me screaming, "For America!" My eyes widened as I looked at Callie and Alexander.
"RUN!" I scream and pick up my dress, running as fast as I can. I feel something grab my hair as I'm pulled back against the man.
"Please don't hurt us." I look up in his eyes, trying to plead with him. For a split second, I saw mercy in his eyes. I whimper as I feel a sharp pain in my heart. I slowly move my blue eyes from his brown eyes and see the steak through my heart.
"What have you done?" I whisper softly, falling to the floor as all I see is black.
