▪▪ Prologue

I walk out of the N- building, the hot sun embraces my body. I feel warm, happy and relieved that my finals are over. I'm going home for a school-less summer. Finally. I put on my aviator sunglasses and head toward my car. You have no idea how happy i am right now.

The 40 minute drive from my CEGEP in Montreal to my house in the suburbs flies by. Even the evening traffic doesn't ruin my day because today is the first day of summer. I'm pretty sure nothing could ruin my mood.

I literally run up the front steps of my house and go in.

"MOM, DAD! I'M HOME!" i scream. no response. where are they? Their cars are in the driveway!

" mom? dad?" i call as i go in the house. Then i see it. The blood. What the he-

It all happened so fast. I saw my parents on the floor, blood everywhere. I got down to try to wake them up, i was pulling out my phone to call the police when i felt sharp pain in my back, just above my hip bone. I turned around just to see a knife plunge down on me and penetrate my stomach right next to my bellybutton. I saw 2 faces, men, and i heard one of them say, " hey! we have another one. awesome!"

I knew i was in trouble. These guys had hurt my parents and tried to hurt me. I knew if i wanted to live i had to fight. And that's what i did. I kicked the one who stabbed me in the face and he fell back. I tried to run out of the house but he grabbed my foot and made me fall. I kicked myself free and before i knew it, someone was grabbing me from behind and tried to drag me back to the living room. I only had time to hit the panic button on the house alarm. The loud noise filled the room.

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.

The whole neighborhood could hear it. The police would be here in less than 5 minutes. All i had to do was hold on, 5 more minutes.

Then, there was more pain.

Last thing i remember, i was thrown against the wall, crashing into framed pictures and i fell on the floor. A police officer came running through the front door. then, everything became black.
