Chapter 4 -- Pool Party Gone Bad

I was hiding. I could hear the screams from my mom and my dad, but i couldn't go out, not after they hid me there. From where i was, in the closet, i could see all of it. The blood, The knife, all of it. My dad was watching my mom die, and he couldn't do anything, neither could i.

My mom didn't move anymore, she looked asleep. I tried to be quiet, but i couldn't stop crying. They laughed. The two men were laughing. My dad was crying. Oh daddy, don't cry.

I heard more screams. They were my dad's. They seemed to last for hours, and then they stopped, just like mommy's had gone.

" We know you're hiding little girl, we will find you, and hurt you, just like we did your mommy and daddy," the man said.

They left the room and i bolted for the door. When i reached it, it wouldn't open, I tried again, it wouldn't budge.

" There you are, it's your turn little girl," he said.

I tried to scream, but it didn't come out. I tried so hard, but no one heard me. Then it hurt so much, i screamed more. I screamed louder....

Someone shook me awake.

"Lexi! Wake up Lex, it's just bad dream, wake up!" the voice said in a hushed voice.

I opened my eyes, and i saw Cameron and Bentley in my room, they were in tight boxers and had sleepy eyes. All the lights were on and the boys looked worried. My face was wet. From tears?

Then, i remembered the nightmare. I couldn't help it but i panicked and the tears flowed some more, and a sob escaped my lips.

" Hey, shhh, we're here Lexi, you're safe," the both hugged me and soothed me. "It was just a bad dream."

After a few minutes of comforting, i calmed down and looked at the boys. I dried my tears and controlled my breathing.

"I-I'm s-sor-sorry guys," i hiccuped. "Th-thank y-you."

"Hey shhh, calm down sis, you're fine. We're here. What happened? Were you having a bad dream?" Bentley asked.

All i could do was nod. It wasn't just a bad dream, it was a part of reality. That's how my parents died. And no matter how hard i tried to forget the images of their death, even if it was in a dream, they didn't go away.

"Cam, go to bed i've got her, i'll take care of her, just go back to sleep," Bentley offered.

" You sure man? I can stay if you want."

" Nah bro, it's all good."

" Okay, calm down Lex, you'll be fine. Goodnight," he said sleepily standing up. He bent down and kissed my forehead, then he took my face in his hands and dried my tears. "No more tears, pretty girl."

And he left. It was just me and Bentley, him holding me in a brotherly over-protective embrace. I actually felt safe with him, and it made me calm down a little bit.

After a few minutes, i felt better. The tightness in my chest subsided and i pulled away from Bentley.

" What happened in your dream Lexi? I swear i've never heard anything like that scream. You sounded terrified and in horrible pain."

Should i tell him? I mean, i didn't have to tell him my parents actually died like that. I could just tell him. And you know what? He's my brother, at some point in time, i'll have to tell them about my birth parents. They'll eventually ask questions and in all honesty, i'd be curious as well.
