The events that took place between Lucille's return from the cat and Ida's visit.

=======

I woke up this morning and checked the weather from the window. There wasn't a single cloud. It would be sunny all day.

"All right!"

I clasped both hands together and stretched them, pushing them upwards. I'll be honest, today is.

(Fall fruit picking!!)

"I'll be back by noon."

After breakfast, I told Sensei, and he nodded.

"Make sure you wear long sleeves and long pants."

After saying that, Sensei quickly went up the stairs with the thick milk tea I had prepared. Somehow, I felt like my mother had told me something similar a long time ago, and my face unintentionally relaxed.

Well, I'll have a good breakfast and then I'll leave.

I lined up all my equipment at the entrance. A big basket that I could carry on my back. Thick work gloves. A mushroom dictionary for when I'm in trouble. A water bottle. A hat. A thin towel. A bell to ward off animals. I'm fully prepared.

Let's go! I rose to my feet with great spirit, and marched triumphantly through the garden and into the surrounding forest.

"...That's promising," muttered a shadow from the balcony, watching my back disappear into the forest.

(Ahhh)

As soon as I entered the forest, I was intuitively certain of victory.

(I won. I've already won.)

Chestnuts rolled around. If I shifted my gaze, I saw mushrooms growing. If it was like this at the entrance to the forest, I'm sure I'd be able to enjoy the flavors of autumn if I went deeper.

I held back the urge to laugh, picked up some chestnuts that had fallen nearby, and threw them into the basket on my back. The future looked bright. What should I make if I get a lot? Roasted chestnuts, chestnut stew, Mont Blanc. Ah, I can't stop laughing.

(Please wait for me, Sensei!!)

I charged further into the forest with all my might.

About two hours had passed since Lucille had left.

Something knocked on the door leading to the balcony of Phyllis's room. Phyllis rose from his chair and headed towards the balcony to greet his visitor. There, several small squirrels were looking up at Phyllis with an unusual presence.

"What's wrong?"

"Sensei! Your housekeeper!"

Phyllis stopped moving for a moment and lowered his voice to say, "What's wrong with Lucille?" A bad feeling ran through him, as he thought something had happened to Lucille. The shadow of Phyllis, crouching down with a serious look on his face, covered the squirrels.

The squirrels squeaked excitedly and thrashed their little front legs.

" She's over-picking chestnuts! Chestnuts of all things!!"

"What is that?! She instantly identified the chestnuts that were full and picked them up! Is she professional?"

"Please stop! "I have a little sister!"

"......"

Phyllis was silent at the desperate pleas of the squirrels. He could picture Lucille happily picking up chestnuts. He thought that even if she harvested a large amount by herself, it would only have a small impact on the bountiful blessings of the vast forest, but when he remembered the size of the basket she bravely carried on her back, it was not hard to understand why the squirrels were scared.
