"Astonished"

I thought it was about time to open the oven, but I was devastated. Because what came out was different from what I had expected.

"Ugh, ugh! I'm so frustrated!"

"What's wrong?"

As I lay there, hands on the desk, lamenting and frustrated, Sensei came over to me. I helplessly pointed to what was laid out on the table. There were flat choux pastries, but they smelled great. Yes, I messed up. They should have been plumper.

If I was going to make them, I wanted to make the perfect cream puffs. I was planning to cut them in half to fill them with cream, but the top and bottom ended up being quite thin. They ended up looking more like shells than choux.

"Frustrating...!"

"That's unusual."

"I haven't failed in a while."

"No, it's not that. I'm surprised that you're so frustrated."

"..."

I've made quite a fuss by myself, but I never show it to Sensei. This time, I was so frustrated that I accidentally expressed it with all my might. I felt embarrassed when he pointed it out, so I said in a small voice,

"Sorry."

"I couldn't get the height right, it looks bad."

"Hmm."

Sensei nodded and trudged off to the kitchen. I wondered what was going on.

"Cortez brought some blueberries the other day."

"Oh, yes. I still have some."

"Why don't you stuff them in?"

"!"

"You can stuff them in to get the height just right."

So there's no need to worry, the purple eyes said.

(S-Sensei~~!)

I gratefully accepted his suggestion, whipped the cream into a stiff consistency, and stuffed as many blueberries as I could into the cream puffs.

"Done!"

As I pushed the last one in, I looked up at Sensei who was steaming tea next to me. Sensei looked at the cream puffs and said,

"Nicely done."

The feeling of depression I'd felt from failing had completely disappeared.

"Well then."

"Yes."

I sit down at the table with Sensei and tea time begins. The pleasant aroma of warm tea and the fragrant smell of butter from the cream puffs envelops me. So I reach for the cream puff--.

"Hello!"

A lively voice comes from the entrance. Sensei and I look at each other. Who's voice is that?

"I'll be out."

I get up from my seat and head to the entrance, and sure enough, Ida is standing there. Another unexpected visit today. She says with a natural look,

"I'm here to play."

I'm used to it now, so I say,

"Come in."

Ida's sharp nose detects

"Ah! It's tea!"

and he rushes to the living room.

"Hello, Master Phyllis. Wow, it looks delicious!"

With a sparkling face and voice, Ida is staring at the cream puffs on the table.

"We were just about to eat. Please enjoy."

"Thank you! What a good time to come!"

She prepares Ida's teacup and pours tea. Sensei is still drinking tea and has not touched the cream puff. He seems to be waiting.

The three of them sit down at the table and start drinking tea again.

"Well then. Let's eat!"

"Let's eat."

"..."

Each of them picks up a cream puff and puts it in their mouth. The crispy choux pastry has a rich buttery flavor, and the thick cream with a light sweetness comes from the inside, and from the inside comes fresh, sweet and sour blueberries.

(~~~~! Delicious!)

As they chew, they open their eyes wide at how delicious it is.

"Wow! Amazing! It's so delicious, Lucille!"

Ida's eyes sparkle with excitement as he stuffs his face with the cream puff. He finishes the whole thing in no time. It looked like he still wanted to eat more.

"One more, please."

"Yay! Thank you!"

Apparently, he really liked it. Ida praised it as he ate it.

(Actually, he didn't realize that she messed up the choux pastry.)

He ate so well that I decided to keep quiet about my mistake. I couldn't help but relax my cheeks and look at Sensei, and his purple eyes met with mine.

Although we didn't exchange words, I could tell that we were thinking the same thing.

"Hehe."

Ida looked puzzled when he noticed the smile Lucille's had accidentally let out.
