As Ayaan moved into the kitchen, the melodies of the rain drummed against the windows, a soothing soundtrack to their unfolding intimacy. He stripped off the dampness of worry, determined to focus on making Maya's favorite hot chocolate. The warmth of the promise he'd just made to her lingered in the air. But before he could lose himself in the process, he needed to make a quick call to Neel.

"Neel, I need you to find out everything about Maya's past-specifically what happened four years ago," Ayaan instructed, his voice firm yet laced with an edge of distress. He could sense there were layers to her pain that had yet to be uncovered, and something told him he needed the full picture if he were to protect her as she deserved.

Just as Neel acknowledged his request, the heavy rainstorm outside intensified. The lights flickered and suddenly, plunged the room into darkness. Ayaan cursed under his breath; the storm had created an unwanted tension. He grabbed his phone and clicked on the flashlight, feeling a surge of anxiety at the thought of Maya alone in the dark.

Making his way back to the living room, Ayaan's heart sank at the sight before him. Maya sat on the ground, clutching her hair, her eyes wide with panic. The darkness seemed to close in around her, a tangible sense of fear emanating from her trembling figure.

"Maya?" Ayaan whispered, kneeling beside her. "Wha...What happened?"

In response, Maya's panicked breaths quickened, her voice quaking as she repeated, "Don't touch me! Stay away from me!" She called out, her words fragmented and desperate, reaching for someone only she could see. Ayaan's heart raced; he understood in that moment that the shadows had coaxed out a haunting moment from her past-one that gripped her tightly.

Without hesitation, he sprang into action, lighting candles and lanterns, illuminating the room with a warm, flickering glow. But the atmosphere was still charged with fear, and Maya remained unsteady. He closed the distance and enveloped her in his arms, whispering, "Maya, I'm here. I will protect you. No one will hurt you."

Gradually, she responded to his embrace, finding comfort in his presence. Ayaan felt her body relax against his, the tremors subsiding under the reassurance of his warmth. Gently, he lifted her and guided her to the couch, settling her in with the care of someone who knew the weight of her fears.

After a long pause, Ayaan asked softly, "Why were you like this?"

Maya took a shaky breath, her eyes still reflecting remnants of terror. "I'm... I'm afraid of the dark in a closed room. After everything... that happened..."

Ayaan's heart ached at her admission, and he nodded, understanding the layers of trauma hidden beneath her words. "Don't worry. I'll bring you some hot chocolate. That always makes things better, doesn't it?"

As he stood to leave, Maya's hand slipped into his, her grip frantic. "Can you stay with me?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper, the vulnerability of her request sending a thrill through Ayaan.
