In those days, my mind was so full of thoughts that I decided to read some books to clear my head. I went to the common room, where no one was around, and sat by the fireplace. I opened my Muggle book and became so engrossed that I eventually fell asleep.
After a while, I felt someone poke me. When I opened my eyes, I saw Fred's face. "Y/n, get up, you're asleep here," he said. Smiling, I replied, "Thank you, I got distracted, I didn't mean to fall asleep."
"What were you reading?" he asked. "A Muggle book called 'Hidden Love,'" I answered.
"I wonder what it's about," he said curiously. "It's about two lovers who can't be each other because they're almost like brother and sister. They hide it at first, blah blah," I dismissed casually. "Sounds familiar," he laughed.
"So, Y/n, have you thought about coming to the Burrow with us?" he asked.
"I was thinking about it; Draco asked me too, but—"
"You're not really considering going, are you?"
"Merlin's beard, Fred, let me finish! Of course, I'm not going with Draco! I know his father would find out, and I'm too pretty to die," I said, giggling.
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, for sure. So, you're coming with me, I mean us?"
"Yeah, why not?" I replied.
We sat and chatted for a while, and he gave me a long look. "Do you really have feelings for him?" he asked.
"I really don't know, Freddie. Being with him makes me feel great, but I have concerns about him being a bully and his family. I just don't know," I admitted.
"Y/n, don't be mad at me, but he isn't good for you. He's too dangerous. I don't want you risking your life for a stupid Slytherin boy," he said.
"I'm not mad at you. I've just been thoughtful lately, and I know you're trying to protect me. I really appreciate it," I said.
In that moment, I felt something between us. His eyes carried a deeper meaning. But just then, the door swung open, and George, Ron, Harry, Hermione, and Percy burst in. "Oi! Were you two plotting something over there?" George laughed, his eyes sparkling.
Fred and I exchanged quick, guilty glances; our moment was interrupted, but the spark still lingered.
After the moment with Fred, I felt a mix of excitement and confusion swirling inside me. I needed to sort out my feelings, especially regarding Draco. I decided to write him a letter.
Dear Draco,
I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to let you know that I've decided to go to the Burrow with Fred and the others for the holidays. It's a bit of a last-minute decision, but I think it will be nice to spend time with them.
I've been thinking a lot about us. I can't help but feel a connection when we're together, but I also have my reservations. Your family and your past, they weigh heavily on my mind. I know you're not like them, but sometimes it's hard to shake off those worries.
I hope you understand why I need to take a step back for now. I genuinely enjoy our time together, and I'd like to explore it more, but I need to figure out where my heart truly lies.
Please take care of yourself while I'm away. Maybe we can talk when I get back?
Y/n
I folded the letter and sealed it, feeling a mixture of relief and apprehension. I knew this was the right thing to do, but it also felt like a door was closing, even if just for a little while.
As the holidays approached, the Burrow was alive with laughter and the warm aromas of Mrs. Weasley's cooking. I found myself surrounded by Fred and the others, yet amid the joy, a strange tension simmered beneath the surface, especially when it came to Fred. One evening, while the others were engrossed in a game of Exploding Snap, Fred and I slipped away to the cozy living room. The flickering glow of the fireplace cast dancing shadows on the walls, and I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as we settled onto the couch, the warmth wrapping around us like a soft blanket.
"Can you believe how chaotic it gets around here?" Fred asked, leaning back with a playful grin. "It's like a zoo."I laughed, feeling the comfort of his presence. "Yeah, but it's nice. It feels like home."He turned to me, his expression softening. "You know, you're a big part of that. You bring a certain... magic with you."My heart raced at his words, and I felt warmth spreading through me. "I'm not sure about that," I replied, trying to deflect. "I think it's just the holiday spirit."Fred chuckled, but there was a seriousness in his gaze that made me feel as if the room had shrunk around us. "No, really. It's different when you're around. I can't explain it."Before I could respond, George burst in, interrupting the moment. "Oi! What are you two whispering about over here?" he teased, mischief dancing in his eyes."Nothing!" I exclaimed, perhaps too quickly. Fred shot me a knowing look, and I felt a rush of embarrassment, the warmth creeping up my cheeks.George smirked and plopped down beside us. "Right, nothing. Just two best friends getting cozy by the fire?"The tension shifted, and I exchanged a glance with Fred, both of us trying to suppress our laughter. George continued to poke fun, oblivious to the awkward energy between us. My heart pounded as I tried to navigate the moment, the air feeling charged with unspoken words. After George finally joined Ron and Hermione, leaving Fred and me alone again, I took a deep breath to steady myself. "So, um... what were we talking about?" I asked, my voice a bit higher than usual."Just the magic of the holidays," Fred said, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "But I think we were getting to the good part.""Oh, really? And what part is that?" I replied, attempting to match his playful tone, though I felt a flutter in my stomach. He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice as if sharing a secret. "The part where I remind you that you're still my favorite person to annoy during the holidays."I laughed, but beneath the lighthearted banter, the weight of our unspoken feelings hung in the air. Each time our shoulders brushed, an electric thrill shot through me, and I could see that he was feeling it too, even if neither of us dared to speak it aloud. As the evening wore on, we found ourselves sitting closer together, the warmth of the fire wrapping around us like a comforting embrace. "You know," Fred said, his voice softening, "I always thought this time of year was magical, but it feels even more special with you here."I looked into his eyes, the flickering light illuminating his features in a way that made my heart flutter. "I feel it too," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "It's like everything feels heightened. Each laugh, each moment...""Each stolen glance?" he suggested, his eyes sparkling with mischief, yet there was a deeper sincerity behind them."Yes," I said, my pulse quickening as I realized how true that was. "It's like we're on the edge of something... bigger."He nodded, his gaze unwavering. "Exactly. Like we're standing on the brink of a great adventure, and I want to explore it with you."The tension in the air thickened, and for a moment, it felt as though we were suspended in time, everything else fading away. I could hear the distant laughter of our friends, but it felt like we were in our own little world."I guess we'll just have to see where it leads," I finally said, forcing a smile to mask the uncertainty I felt."Yeah," he replied, a hint of hope in his tone. "Let's just enjoy the ride together, no matter where it takes us."In that moment, surrounded by the glow of the holiday lights, I felt the connection between us deepen. There was an intimacy in our shared silence, an unspoken understanding that lingered in the air. I knew we were navigating a delicate balance between friendship and something more, the tension both exhilarating and nerve-wracking.As I looked at him, the warmth in his eyes made my heart race. I couldn't help but wonder if we were both feeling the same pull, the same magnetic attraction that was drawing us closer together. And as the fire crackled softly, I realized that whatever path lay ahead, we were ready to face it together—no matter how awkward or romantic the moments might be.
