I glance up from my plate, catching Dante's intense gaze. Again.

What's going on? Why does he keep staring. I try to brush it off, focusing on Cole, my brother, sitting beside me.

Cole leans in, a warm smike on his face."So, how's school going? Still loving vet school?"

I grin , enthusiasm sparking. "It's been great, Cole! Third year's keeping me busy but I love it."

Cole nods, intrest in his eyes. "That's awesome. You're almost there. What's your favorite part so far?". I think for a moment. "Definitely the clinical work. Helping animals, seeing the impact....its rewarding. "

Cole beams with pride.
"You're going to make an amazing vet, Eli"

I chuckle

"Thanks, Cole. Means a lot coming from you". Cole's expression turns thoughtful. "And, um, how's life outside school? Dating anyone?"

I blush slightly, smiling. "Actually, I am focusing on school right now. No time for drama" . Cole laughs. "Fair enough! You deserve someone amazing."

The night has come to an end when I spot Gab standing alone near the balcony. I take a deep breath and walk over to him. "Hey Gab" I say trying to sound casual.

Gabriel turns, his expression neutral. "Elija"

I pause searching for a conversation starter. "How's work?" I ask, know he's been busy with the family business. Gab shrugs. "It's work. You know how it is"

I nod, sensing the familiar tension. "Yeah I do"

Awkward silence follows and I think to my self, why do I even bother? He never changes.

But I try again. "Gab, can I ask you something?"

Gabriel raises an eyebrow. "Whaf is it?". I hesitate, choosing my words carefully. "Do you ever think...mybe your views on gay man are...outdated?"

His expression turns skeptical "what are you talking about, Elijah?"

I take a deep breath " I mean you always say I'm weak and lack strength... but that's not true. I am strong in my own way."

Gab chuckles condescendingly. "You're still so naive, Elijah. You don't understand the world."

My frustration grows " I understand enough to know everyone deserves respect, regardless of their gender or sexuality".

He shakes his head. "You're too soft Elijah. You need to toughen up" he says leaving me alone as be walks back inside the house.

I toss and turn, my mind racing with frustration from the conversation with my Brother.

Why can't he understand? Why must he always belittle me?.

But as I settle into bed, my thoughts unexpectedly shift

Dante.

Those piercing eyes, the captivating smile.

His gaze lingered on me. Did he mean to? or was I imagining things?. I recall the spark when our hands touched. My heart skips a beat.

What's happening to me?. I shouldn't be thinking about him.

But I can't help it.

Dante's face lingers in my mind. As I fall asleep, his face is the last thing I see.
