"The number you have dialed is no longer in service." Jocelyn heard before hanging up the phone. Ever since the text Saturday night, Jocelyn had been trying to figure out who sent it. And unfortunately, whoever did, couldn't be reached anymore. Ty had told her to let it go, saying it could have been a wrong number. Jocelyn had a feeling it was meant for her. It had the same Dencer area code she once had. Jocelyn tapped her pen on her desk as she chewed on her bottom lip. Something didn't feel right about the entire situation.
"Joce." Jocelyn looked up, finding Christopher poking his head through her open door.
"Come in." Christopher walked through the doorway. "What's up?"
"I was sent here by your husband to see if you were almost done."
"I'm about done. Is he ready to go?" She asked. It was now Wednesday. Appointment day. Jocelyn had been nervous about this appointment for days and Ty did everything he could to keep her nerves down.
"He said he's ready whenever you are." Jocelyn  shut down her computer and grabbed her bag from under her desk. Jocelyn left her office with Christopher in tow.
"Did he say where he was?"
"Outside with the crew." Jocelyn nodded before heading to the elevator. Jocelyn greeted Marlene when she stepped off on the main floor. She headed to the shop floor doors. Jocelyn was immediately greeted by all the guys working on the cars for Kansas. Jocelyn pushed open the back door, finding the 54 crew.
"Where's my husband?" She asked. They all looked over at her.
"He's coming." Braxton replied as they crew got back up on the makeshift pit wall. The car came into view before it stopped in the box. Jocelyn watched the crew make the pit stop.
"Great job, boys." The pit crew coach said as Ty pulled himself out of the car.
"Hey. You ready?" He asked his wife.
"I'm out here, arent I?" Ty walked over to her. "We still have about an hour, so we can head home if you want a quick shower." Ty nodded. "Bye guys!"
"Good luck!" Everyone called out at the same time as they headed back inside.
"I've got to drink a god awful amount of water before we go too." Jocelyn said as they headed through the shop doors to the front lobby. They said goodbye to Marlene as they headed out to the parking lot. Ty helped her into the car before getting in himself.
"Are you nervous at all?" Ty asked as he pulled out of the parking lot to head home.
"A little bit. You never know what they're going to find and..."
"Everything is going to be fine. The odds of life-threatening conditions is almost zero."
"But it's not zero. Knowing my luck..."
"You're psyching yourself out right now. Be positive, okay?" Jocelyn nodded. "Everything will be okay." The rest of the drive home was silent. Ty pulled the car into the garage. "Hey."
"Yeah."
"Whatever we get told today, we can handle it." Jocelyn nodded. They headed inside, Ty heading inside while Jocelyn went to the kitchen. Jocelyn was on her third glass of water when Ty came back down stairs in clean clothes and his hair wet from the shower. "Almost ready?" Jocelyn nodded.
"I'll take the rest with us." Jocelyn grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge. She grabbed her bag and followed Ty back out to the garage. The drive to the hospital was silent as well, Jocelyn sending texts and emails on the way there.
"What are you thinking about over there?"
"Trying to not pee." Jocelyn said with a laugh. Ty immediately knew something else was on her mind.
"What else?" Jocelyn looked over at him. "You're still thinking about that text, aren't you?"
"How can I not, Ty? Someone needs help and I can't do anything about it."
"How do you know if that's what it really what the text was about?"
"Ty..."
"Jocelyn, please dont stress yourself over this. Let it go."
"I kind of have to. The number isn't in service anymore." Jocelyn said with a huff. Ty pulled into the hospital parking lot. He got out first before helping her out.
"Come here." Ty pulled her to him. "If it will make you feel better, I can see if Denny can look into the phone number."
"You think he will?"
"If it gives you the piece of mind." Jocelyn pressed her lips to his.
"Thank you."
"Okay, let's go inside and see our baby."
***
"Okay. Everything looks great. Baby is measuring perfectly." Dr. Hansen told the parents as she continued to look over the baby on the screen. "No signs of any birth defects. Baby looks healthy." Jocelyn finally let out the breath she was holding in.
"Thank God."
"She's been worried." Ty said.
"I totally get it. I see parents come in here all the time worrying about what they're going to be told." Dr. Henson replied. "So, since the scary stuff is over, do you want to know what you're having? Or are you keeping it a surprise?" Jocelyn looked over at Ty. Ty nodded.
"We want to know. I don't know how anyone wouldn't want to know."
"You'd be surprised how many people don't want to know." Dr. Hansen paused the screen. "Look like dad is getting a mini me." Jocelyn looked over at her husband. "Is that what we wanted?"
"We were going to be happy either way." Jocelyn told her. "This might be little more sentimental for Ty. He lost his dad a few years ago."
"He's already got a name then?" Jocelyn nodded. Dr. Hansen printed out a few photos for them before leaving the room so Jocelyn could change.
"A boy."
"Your dreams were right, Joce." Ty said with a smile. Jocelyn got herself dressed again before the left the exam room. "Hungry?"
"I could eat." They left the doctor's office hand in hand and headed outside back to the car. Ty had sent Denny a text asking for his help while they sat in the waiting room for the appointment to begin. So, Ty was surprised to find Denny calling him right away. "Who is it?"
"It's Denny."
"Already?" Jocelyn asked as Ty answered the call.
"Hello?"
"I had Angelea look into that request you had." Denny said without greeting his teammate.
"Already?" Ty asked as he helped Jocelyn into the car. Ty stopped half way to the driver's side, leaning against the hood of the car. "When I asked, I didn't think you would have the time to even consider helping out."
"You're my teammate and I like Jocelyn. I'd do anything for her."
"I appreciate this. I just need to give her a piece of mind."
"I'd do the same for Kasey."
"So, what did she find out?"
"Not much yet. Just that it's a Denver cell number."
"Jocelyn figured that out. What else?"
"Does the name Benjamin Hawthorne mean anything to either you?" Ty cursed. "I take that as a yes."
"That's Jocelyn's ex-fiancé. The one that had the inappropriate relationship."
"Right. The cell phone number was registered to his account. Until a couple of days ago. Sunday to be exact."
"Shit."
"That wasn't what you wanted to hear, is it?"
"No, because I have a feeling who sent that message. Jocelyn is not going to like the answer."
