The sun dipped low in the sky, casting a warm golden light over the suburban streets. Y/N sat on the edge of the park's fountain, her feet dangling above the water, watching as the last few kids packed up their things and headed home. She loved this time of day, when the world felt like it was holding its breath, teetering between the excitement of summer evenings and the quiet of night.

"Hey!" Killua's voice rang out, pulling her from her thoughts. He skidded to a halt in front of her, his skateboard tucked under one arm. "You ready for tonight?"

Y/N rolled her eyes playfully. "What, are we actually doing this? Sneaking out to the rooftop again?"

"Of course! It's our summer tradition." Killua grinned, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief. "And I've got something new to bring."

"What is it this time?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

With a flourish, Killua produced a sleek vape from his backpack, the light catching the shiny surface. "I found this in my brother's room. It's supposed to be really good."

Y/N felt a mix of excitement and apprehension. Vaping was something she had seen older kids do, a habit that seemed to embody rebellion and a desire for freedom. "Are we really going to do that?"

"Why not? It's just vapor. It's not like we're smoking cigarettes." Killua shrugged, a nonchalant smile on his face.

"Okay, but you know it's not exactly the healthiest choice," Y/N said, biting her lip. She didn't want to be the buzzkill, but something about it felt wrong.

Killua stepped closer, his voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper. "Come on, it'll be fun. It's just for tonight. Besides, it's summer! We should live a little."

Y/N looked at him, the easy confidence he exuded always a little intoxicating. She took a deep breath, making up her mind. "Alright, let's do it. But just this once."

As the sun finally sank below the horizon, Y/N and Killua made their way to the abandoned rooftop of their old school, a place they had claimed as their own during summer break. They climbed the fire escape, the metal rattling beneath their feet. When they reached the top, the view took their breath away—the sprawling town beneath them, lights flickering to life like stars fallen to earth.

"See? This is what summer's about," Killua said, spreading his arms wide as if he could embrace the entire sky. "No rules, no responsibilities."

Y/N nodded, the thrill of being up there with him washing over her. She felt a sense of freedom she hadn't experienced before, but a small voice in the back of her mind reminded her to be careful.

Killua pulled out the vape, a confident grin on his face. "Alright, watch and learn." He took a deep puff, the device humming softly, and released a thick cloud of fruity vapor that drifted lazily into the night.

"Your turn!" he said, handing it to her.

Y/N hesitated for a moment, looking at the device in her hands. It felt foreign, almost intimidating. "What if we get caught?" she asked, glancing around the rooftop.

"Who's going to catch us? It's just us up here," Killua replied, nudging her playfully. "Just try it. You might like it."

Taking a deep breath, Y/N finally took the vape. She inhaled cautiously, the sweetness flooding her senses. When she exhaled, a cloud of vapor burst forth, swirling into the night air.

"See? Not so bad, right?" Killua laughed, clearly impressed.

"Yeah, I guess it's kinda cool," Y/N admitted, her nerves easing. They took turns, laughing and sharing stories, the night enveloping them like a warm hug. Each puff felt like a tiny act of rebellion, a way to escape the pressures of school and growing up.

As they settled into the moment, Y/N found herself opening up to Killua more than she ever had. "You know, sometimes I feel like no one really understands me. Like I'm just...invisible."

Killua paused, looking at her seriously. "You're not invisible to me. I get it. This place can feel small, like everyone's just going through the motions. But you've got to be true to yourself, even if it's hard."

His words resonated with her. Y/N had often felt like she didn't fit in, but with Killua, she felt seen. "Thanks, Killua. That means a lot."

They shared more stories, laughter echoing into the night. But as the sky darkened further, Y/N began to feel the weight of her choice. The vape was fun, but it didn't feel as liberating as she had imagined. Instead, it started to feel like another layer of expectation, another way to fit in.

Later that night, as they settled back into the silence of the rooftop, Y/N couldn't shake the feeling that they were teetering on the edge of something. "What if we just...don't do this again?" she suggested softly, her heart racing a little.

Killua turned to her, surprise flickering in his eyes. "What? Why not? It's just a little fun."

"I know, but...what if we find other ways to have fun? Things that don't feel so risky?" Y/N said, her voice steadying.

Killua frowned, the playful glint in his eyes dimming slightly. "You don't want to be a square, do you? I thought we were in this together."

Y/N felt a pang of guilt. "I just want to be myself, Killua. I'm tired of pretending to be someone I'm not."

For a moment, silence enveloped them. Then Killua sighed, a mix of frustration and understanding in his expression. "I get it. I guess I just thought...we'd be cool. That this would help us feel more free."

Y/N reached out, placing a hand on his arm. "I want to feel free too. But maybe freedom is about making the right choices for ourselves, not just following what everyone else does."

Slowly, a smile returned to Killua's face, albeit a tentative one. "You're right. Maybe we can find our own adventures, ones that don't involve sneaking around."

"Exactly," Y/N said, relief washing over her. "Let's find new things to explore. We can go to the lake, make a fort in the woods, or just hang out and talk."

As they sat there, the tension between them eased, and the night felt lighter. They shared dreams of the future, adventures they wanted to have, and the kinds of friends they hoped to be
