"Speaking of playing baseball with asteroids, there's Nicky."
I perked up at the mention of my name, only to see two teenage boys laughing to each other and pointing towards me. I looked them up and down. It was a shame I didn't have anything threatening to chase them around with, I was certain they'd change their minds after that.
I stood up, perfectly willing to chase them around without something lethal on hand, but my new counselor cleared her throat, gesturing toward the sketchbook she'd laid down on the table a few minutes ago, "Nicky, is it really worth it?"
I sat back down, grumbling to myself. "They're insulting my honor!"
It occurred to me that she was taking notes. Her thick notebook was propped up on the table in such a way that I couldn't see what she was writing, but she was writing. The woman smiled slightly when she saw me watching and set down her pen. She handed me a package of colored pencils. "Well, let's try some art then. I've been told you like art?"
I grunted weakly and started opening up the package, dumping out the colors onto the table in a haphazard mess just to see if the mess itself would be in some way inspiring.
It wasn't.
I picked up a random pencil, a bright green, and started sketching out the idea the boys had given me. Playing baseball with asteroids? Well sure, I was Nicky, I could totally see myself doing that!
The woman had her head tilted as she examined the drawing. She wasn't actually a therapist or a counselor, she'd just volunteered to keep track of me a few weeks back for some reason. I got the feeling that despite not having been banned from this small town yet, they were already running out of people willing to put up with me.
I drew though, and my thoughts wandered away, leaving nothing but extreme focus in their wake. Nina watched me all the while, taking notes with an expression of extreme concentration. Whatever she was writing had to be important with a face like that.
