"You sure you don't want to ride with us?" Belly asked, Taylor alongside her. I shook my head, "No, Jere said he wanted to pick me up, so I'll wait for him."

"Tell that asshole that I'm punching him at the party. 15 minutes late is a crime!" Taylor warned, rolling her eyes at the thought.

"Tay, shut up. I'll just drive over if he doesn't show up within the next ten." I teased.

Taylor's my older sister, by literally almost a year, and we've gotten very close with the Conklins and Fishers after spending countless summers with them. Though, I knew my sister was a bit much when it came to me.

"Just call, okay? I will come get you if he doesn't show, and I'll beat his ass," she said softly, giving me one last hug at the doorway. I smiled and whispered a low "thank you", exchanging hugs and see you later's with the girls as they headed towards Taylor's car.

As I locked the door, I sat on the couch, fixing the ends of my dress. I've had the biggest crush on Jeremiah since we were little, and everyone knew that. But, he always insisted we were best friends. So there I was, stuck in the friend zone. Every summer, just like this one, I was just the best friend.

My phone dinged, distracting me from my thoughts. I picked up my phone to see a notification.

Jere
im so sorry, ill be out in 5. you can head out soon.

Me
sounds good

Jere
fuck im so so sorry

Deciding to finally grab my bag and coat, I got ready to head out. I turned the lights off and locked the frint door as I waited on the front steps of the house. Our parents were out of town, I was also almost 18 in like a month.

I mindlessly scrolled through my phone as headlights came in to view. I knew those lights and stood up. Jeremiah quickly pulled in and stepped out of his car. He made his way towards me and once I had a better view of him, he looked like a bit of a mess. It could be the pre-game shot though making me see differently, I was 100% a lightweight.

I furrowed my eyes as he jogged closer to me.

"Y/N," he said breathily, "I am so so sorry. I know I'm so late-"

I cut him off, honestly just wanting to get to the party that we were already fairly late to. "Jere, it's fine. Let's just go."

I walked towards the passenger side and heard him follow after me. Before I could grab the handle, he was already on it.

"It's not fine, but I'm still going to open your door and tell you that you look insanely good tonight." he said, a half smile appearing on his face.

"Thanks, you too," I said lowly, doing what I could to hide the very evident shade of pink I was turning from his comment. He always complimented me, but this one felt a little different.
