As we walk into the college I realize just how huge the campus is.
It was like one of those movie moments when everything slows down.
" Hey Carson, do you want to practice a little before they call us to audition?" Jaycee called pulling me out of my thoughts.
"Uh yeah, let's start with the c scale"
After we practiced every scale and Jaycee giving me some tips on some of them, a bald man went on stage and called for the oboes to audition in practice room 2c. Jaycee went in first.
" Good luck fry, you'll do great" Fry was my nickname for since her last name sounded like Fry.
"Thanks Cars" she nodded before walking into the room.
I casually listened in on how she did. She played amazingly her sound was flawless and her sight reading piece was phenomenal. I was getting kind of nervous I don't think I can play that well I am nowhere near that level. Then Jaycee walked out of the room and I offer my praise.
"That was great Jayc!"
"Thanks Carson you'll do great" she used the frosted flakes phrase, and we laughed. I walked into the room and there was an older large man sitting at a desk behind the music stand.
"Name?"
"Uh Carson Clade" I squeaked nervously.
"Play your f and c scales" I played through those two scales perfectly remembering what Jaycee had told me.
When the time came to play the sight reading portion I played pitifully.
" You have great tone quality just practice more on your sight reading but over all you did great" the man said cheering me up.
As I walked out of the room Jaycee praised me and looked extremely excited, about this time I realized we were the only two oboes.
"What" I asked her as she was literally jumping around
"You did great you are my competition, I'm so proud of you little oboe!" We always joked around that she trained me to be like her.
"But wait there's more" she said finally stoping her frantic jumping around and clapping.
"You remember Blondie I mean Jace" she said grinning
"Yeah what about him"
"He came during your audition and told me he wanted to talk to you during lunch!" She screamed.
"Really why" I said calmly. Why would JACE want to talk to me.
"But be careful, his girlfriend is Jaclyn"
I knew he had a girlfriend. Jaclyn seems really nice, I've never talked to her but she is in band so she must be pretty cool.
"Okay" I said in a questioning voice , I honestly don't know how I feel about him.
After our little conversation we went to lunch , realizing we were the last ones in the hall.
"Hey guys" Desiray greeted as we walked up to the table the were sitting at with our trays. We sat down at the table with Desiray, Latreal, Makayla, and Anden. We kept up a random conversation about how we thought each other did, when Jace came over and sat down at the only open seat (the one right next to me).
"Hey guys what's up" he casually said
"Hey Blondie" I elbowed him. Okay so I was flirting a little bit.
"Ms.Freeman was the French horns director and guess who is first chair" he said cockily.
"Mhm let me guess...Rodrick" said Desiray
"Nope meh" we all laughed at his choice of words.
"How did ya'll do"
"We don't know because we don't have connections" laughed Latree. Jace turned to me and put his arm around my shoulders.
"I heard this one sounded great" he said squeezing my shoulder. Of course I was blushing.
"You think she could beat you Jaycee" he asked with his arm still slung around me.
"Not a chance"
"Eh I think I got her beat" I said and everyone laughed.
" Hey everybody pictures!" Mrs.Meruchii said as we groaned. Nevertheless we all smiled at the camera note Jace's arm still slung on my shoulder.
"Okay now a funky one"
We all posed. I crossed my eyes and did the duck face, Jaycee laid across my shoulder and Jace stuck his tongue out at my face.
After that we all got up to throw our trays away when Jace stopped me.
"Hey Cars" he said
"Yeah"
"You did great today" he sounded really nervous.
"Uh thanks"
"let's walk back"
"Yeah good idea" I laughed
So that's what we did I went and put my tray up while he waited for me and we walked back together.
