"Hello there little lamb," he said as he took a couple of steps forward.
I scurried back, glancing up at the window I came through. There was no chance in hell I could get back up there without him grabbing me. I heard footsteps above us. Shit, there are more wolves, so even if I get around him I am trapped.
"Did you think I didn't notice the window?" He asked, slowly descending on me. "It is a shame, losing on the first night." He shook his head.
He was right. This is disgraceful. I should have never come back toward the house. The woods had been my best shot and I ruined it. I did that, this was my fault.Wait, the card! I can use the card. I take off my phone case, where I had shoved the card, to pull it off as the wolf slowly makes his way toward me.
As I am about to hand him my SAFE card an alarm blares from my phone and his.
"Saved by the bell." The wolf said, but he didn't stop walking toward me. He reached down, extending a hand to help me up. I looked up at him as if he were crazy. Like I would take his hand after all that. "You are safe now, the time is up. Let me help you."
I tried to get up on my own, but my ankle throbs with a pain I hadn't noticed before. Must have been the adrenaline and I yelled out, falling back toward the ground.
"Are you hurt?" He asked, concern in his voice even behind the voice changer. He kneeled down beside me and I crane my head to try to get a look at his eyes, but he turned his head.
"Unmasking me now won't count. And you would be disqualified." He whispered. "Now tell me where you are hurt."
"My ankle." I pointed to my right ankle and he took my phone, light still on and examined it.
"I think it's just twisted, it isn't swollen too much. You should be fine."
"Timer went off, we need to meet back at the starting point." The wolf with the white tie is at the door now, shining a flashlight at us. Why were they allowed to have real flashlights?
"She's hurt." The guy at my ankle said, placing it down gently. "We are coming."
He stood and then bent down and lifted me in a fireman's carry. I yelp in surprise as I throw my arms around his neck. This was dangerous of him. Letting me get this close.
"You shouldn't..." The other wolf started to say, but stopped shaking his head. "What do I care?" He turned and headed away.
The green tied wolf carried me all the way back to the starting point, placing me gently on the ground in front of the other six.
"What happened?" The blue tied wolf asked.
"Did you hurt her?" The black one was next, walking over to me, but was pushed back by the green one.
"She is fine." He said. "She just hurt her ankle, but you should probably stay back."
Why? Would I recognize him if he got too close?
"Mina Park," The gray tied wolf addressed me, pointing for the other two to get in line. He was the leader, I am now sure. Or the alpha? I have no idea. "You survived your first night, congratulations. No wolves were unmasked." He sounded as if he were checking items off a list. "You may return to your home. We will contact you for the next event."
I nodded and tried to stand up, wincing as I put weight on my ankle, though it didn't hurt as bad as before. This time, with the leader in front of them, none of the wolves came to my aid and I had to limb back to my car like a wounded animal.
When I got back to my apartment, Taehun was thankfully asleep. I tried not to make too much noise as I showered and grabbed the first aid kit from under the sink.
