As Kayla and Kenny continued to fill the basket with berries, they suddenly heard the sound of voices approaching. They paused what they were doing and strained their ears to listen. Soon, they spotted a small group of elves emerging from the trees, carrying baskets and gathering berries just like they were. The elves had long, pointed ears and were clearly of elvish descent. Kayla and Kenny exchanged a glance, surprised and curious to see these creatures. Feeling a bit wary but also excited to make contact, they carefully approached the group. But before they could say anything, a sudden loud noise caught their attention and they spun around to see. A large, lumbering creature emerging from the trees behind them. Its large, imposing figure took them by surprise and before they knew it, they were being herded towards a large cage that they hadn't even noticed before. The cage was sturdy and well-made, and clearly meant to hold creatures captive. The elves watched Kayla and Kenny with a mix of confusion and curiosity in their eyes. It was clear that they had never seen humans before, and they were unsure how to react to their presence. One of the elves, who seemed to be the leader of the group, stepped forward and spoke to them in a language they couldn't understand. The elf gestured towards the cage, making it clear that they were expected to go inside. Kayla and Kenny exchanged a apprehensive look. They were obviously outnumbered by the elves and didn't want to make any sudden moves that might startle them. Reluctantly, they stepped forward and allowed themselves to be led into the cage, realizing that they had no choice but to comply for the moment. After a moment of silence, Kenny spoke up, his voice more calm but with a undercurrent of worry. "I don't know where we are," he said, looking around the cage with a frown. "But whatever the case, we need to stay calm and figure out what's going on. We don't want to do anything to anger these elves, they clearly have us outnumbered." Kayla nodded in agreement, her hands gripping the bars of the cage tightly. "You're right," she said, her voice softer now. "We don't want to make things worse. But what are they going to do with us?" Kenny shrugged, not having the answer to that question. However, he didn't have time to respond because the elf leader spoke up again. He said something in a language neither Kayla nor Kenny understood, gesturing at the cage and the surrounding area. Kayla and Kenny exchange a glance, feeling increasingly anxious and confused. The elves seemed to be discussing something amongst themselves, and the two friends were left in the dark about what was happening. They could only watch and wait, hoping that they would not be harmed in any way. At one point, Kenny noticed the elf leader's young kid standing nearby, and an idea sprung to mind. He began to act friendly and talkative to the kid, trying to gain its trust. After a few minutes of charming banter, he managed to get the key from the kid and escape the cage with Kayla, slipping away into the nearby woods before the elves could notice. Once they were safely out of sight, Kayla let out a deep breath, her heart still racing from the close call. "That was close," she said, her voice shaky. Kenny nodded in agreement, his own pulse still racing from the adrenaline of the situation. "Yeah, for a minute there, I thought we were in some serious trouble," he said, a hint of relief in his voice. Kayla looked around at their unfamiliar surroundings, her eyes scanning the dense forest that they had entered. The trees were thick and the undergrowth was dense, making it difficult to see very far. "We have to find a way out of here," she said, a note of determination in her voice. Kenny looked around as well, his senses heightened and his mind racing. "I know," he said, his eyes searching for any landmarks that would help them orient themselves. "But we have no idea where to start. This forest is huge and we don't know where north is."
kayla then got an idea on her head. Kayla and Kenny quickly realized that their only option was to try and escape on horseback. They dashed back towards the elf camp, hoping to steal a horse without being noticed. However, as they approached, they were quickly spotted by the elves who began to brandish their weapons and give chase. Reacting quickly, Kenny jumped onto a nearby stallion, while Kayla swung up behind him. "Hurry! Go!" she yelled, her grip on his waist tightening as they spurred the horse forward and galloped into the forest. The elves tried to pursue them, firing arrows and shouting after them, but the horse was too fast and soon they left them behind. Kenny expertly navigated the horse through the trees and bushes, following Kayla's directions as she guided them through the unfamiliar terrain. Kayla clung to Kenny's back, her heart racing with adrenaline and fear. She could hear the sound of the horse's hooves pounding against the ground and the wind rushing past them, but her mind was focused on finding a way out of this strange forest and back to safety. After a while of riding, they slowed down and stopped to catch their breath and rest the horse. Kayla leaned forward to speak to Kenny over the sound of the horse's heavy breathing. "I think we lost them," she said, looking back over her shoulder to make sure that they weren't being followed. Kenny nodded, his hands still gripping the reins tightly. "Yeah, for now," he replied, looking around at their surroundings. They were deeper into the forest now, and the trees loomed overhead like a dark canopy. Kayla shivered as a chill ran down her spine. The forest looked even more intimidating than before now that night was falling. The woods were already dark and difficult to navigate, but with the sun setting, shadows were beginning to gather under the trees and the temperature was dropping.
