The dim, musty air of the tomb felt heavy as Elena stepped inside, her heart pounding. Katerina Petrova was there, her figure silhouetted against the flickering candlelight, eyes glimmering with a mix of mischief and weariness.
"What brings you here, Elena?" Katerina asked, her voice smooth but laced with curiosity.
"I need answers, Katerina," Elena replied, crossing her arms. "You've been hiding something—something about Klaus."
Katerina chuckled lightly, the sound echoing off the stone walls. "Always so persistent. But yes, Klaus is a problem for all of us." She leaned closer, her expression shifting to something more serious. "There's another name you should be aware of. A heretic."
Elena's brow furrowed in confusion. "A heretic? What do you mean?"
Katerina hesitated, her gaze drifting away. "A vampire and a witch. Only one of her kind."
"And Klaus doesn't know about her?" Elena pressed, her curiosity piqued.
"No," Katerina replied, her tone darkening. "He'd see her as a threat—perhaps even an ally if he could bend her to his will. But the truth is, the heretic can't be found. She only shows herself when there's a reason."
Elena frowned, trying to piece it together. "What kind of reason?"
Katerina leaned back against the cold stone wall, her expression becoming pensive. "She's selective, calculated. Anastasija doesn't simply appear because someone calls her name. There must be something significant at stake—something worth her time and risk."
"So you think she wouldn't respond to us?" Elena asked, a hint of frustration creeping into her voice.
"It's not that simple, Elena." Katerina said, her eyes narrowing.
"But if we could just find her..." Elena began, her voice trailing off in uncertainty.
Katerina's expression shifted, and a glimmer of hope sparked in her eyes. "Perhaps there is a way. Anastasija has a sister—Maria. She's a vampire, and she might be the only connection we have left to reach out to Anastasija."
Elena's interest piqued. "Maria? Where can we find her?"
Katerina shrugged, her tone growing serious again. "That's the catch. From what I heard few decades back is that Maria is living with her boyfriend somewhere in Richmond. But if we can convince her, she might lead us to Anastasija. It's a risk, but its your only chance."
"Then we have to find her," Elena said, determination in her voice. "We can't give up on. Not now."
Katerina started laughing histericaly, "You go do that, if she rips the whole town of Mystic Falls I'll be the safest bitch in town!"
