Tick’s victory celebration finally wound down, but the energy of the day still buzzed through the Brawl House. Bibi leaned against the back wall, arms crossed as the room emptied, feeling like her head was stuck between the excitement of the day’s fight and… something else. Across the room, Melodie was lingering too, exchanging a few words with Crow before catching Bibi’s gaze again.
When the last few stragglers headed out, Melodie didn’t follow. Instead, she stepped toward Bibi, her expression soft but focused, her footsteps almost silent against the floor. Bibi’s heart skipped, her pulse tightening at the thought of being alone with her again, with no showdown, no teammates around—just the two of them in the quiet, dimly lit room.
The silence hung heavy, the only sound the faint clinking of glasses someone had forgotten to clear away. Bibi ran a hand through her hair, trying to play it cool, but her mind was racing, words slipping away before she could grab them.
“So,” she finally said, feigning nonchalance, “you didn’t have to check up on me after the match, you know.”
Melodie smirked, leaning against the counter across from her, arms folded, her eyes never leaving Bibi. “Yeah, well,” she shrugged, “maybe I wanted to make sure the strongest Brawler on the team wasn’t just a softie under all that adrenaline.”
Bibi snorted, rolling her eyes. “Softie? Please. I’ve been out there in tougher fights. Just figured maybe you were looking for an excuse to keep an eye on me.”
“Oh?” Melodie’s voice was soft, but there was a playful lilt to it. “Maybe I was.” She took a step closer, and then another, the smirk fading as her gaze grew more intense, thoughtful. “Or maybe I just wanted to see what that whole truth-or-dare thing meant to you.”
Bibi’s throat went dry. She swallowed, trying to keep her cool as Melodie came closer. She could feel the tension thickening between them, that undeniable spark that had been simmering since the night before. The room felt like it was shrinking, every inch of space between them charged and electric.
Bibi took a shaky breath. “Last night was… well, it was…” She trailed off, the words dying in her throat as she looked into Melodie’s eyes, now just inches away. She could smell the faintest hint of her perfume, feel the warmth radiating off of her, and it sent a rush through her that she couldn’t deny.
“Yeah,” Melodie said softly, her voice barely a whisper as she reached out, her hand coming to rest on Bibi’s arm, fingers warm against her skin. “Last night was something.”
They stood there, neither one daring to break the moment, the weight of it settling around them like a secret that only they knew. Bibi’s heart was pounding now, her breathing shallow as she looked into Melodie’s eyes, searching for something—some kind of sign, maybe, or permission. And then, without really thinking, she leaned forward, her lips hovering just a breath away from Melodie’s.
She could feel Melodie’s breath against her skin, could see her eyes flutter closed, and for a moment, Bibi hesitated. But then Melodie tilted her head up, closing the space between them in a slow, gentle kiss.
The kiss was soft at first, tentative, like they were both testing the waters, but it quickly deepened, both of them leaning in, letting the world fall away around them. Bibi felt herself relax, all the tension of the day, the fight, the nerves—all of it melting away as she wrapped her arms around Melodie, pulling her closer. It was like the rest of the world disappeared, leaving only the two of them in this perfect, quiet moment.
When they finally pulled back, Bibi opened her eyes, breathless, a slow smile spreading across her face as she looked at Melodie, who was smiling back, her cheeks flushed, her eyes bright.
“So,” Melodie said softly, still catching her breath. “Was that what you were hoping for?”
Bibi grinned, a teasing glint in her eye. “Maybe. Not bad for a ‘softie,’ huh?”
Melodie laughed, her hand still resting on Bibi’s arm, her touch warm and steady. “Definitely not bad,” she replied, her voice softening as she looked into Bibi’s eyes. “In fact, I might just want to try that again sometime.”
Bibi’s grin widened as she felt the last of her nerves fade away. “Good,” she said, her voice a little quieter, more serious. “Because I think I’d like that too.”
They stayed there, wrapped in each other’s arms, each of them content to let the moment linger, knowing that whatever came next, they’d face it together. And for the first time in a long time, Bibi felt like she was exactly where she was meant to be.
