He took my hands in his and asked, 'wanna go for a run later on today...I want to meet your wolf'.
I open my mouth to answer but Camila beat me to it. 'Nope...she's not available...today is our birthday so we are going out...you...dumba** can have her tonight for a run', then she walked closer to him with a serious glare, "but if you hurt her again...I swear to the moon goddess...I will torch your room" and narrow her eyes up at him. "I would listen to her if I were you" I said to Clark as he just rolls his eyes at his sisters' threats. My hands still in his, he turns around and said, "see you tonight then...I'll call", then squeeze my hands before he let go and walk out. 'Adi please accept my friend request', he mind-link me. I smile at his receding figure, then slowly Camila's ridiculous big grinning face came into view as she slowly blocked my view of her brother's beautiful a**.
"You're smitten," she accused.
"What? No, I'm not!" I spun around to avoid her gaze.
"You were smiling and blushing—I saw you," she teased, poking my side.
"Stop!" I giggled and dashed up to my room, her laughter trailing behind me. We flopped onto my bed, still giggling.
"I won't judge you if you decide to reject him fully. You're still my best friend, and he's still an idiot," Camilla finally said, lying beside me as we stared at the ceiling.
"I know you won't, penguin," I replied. "I know it won't change anything between us."
She turned to face me, a playful smile on her lips. "But if you do accept him... then I'd have to call you sister." She burst into giggles.
We spent the day shopping and indulging in a feast, to the point where we struggled to get out of the car when we finally returned home after 6 PM. The guards helped us with our overflowing shopping bags, carrying everything inside. Camilla and I took our treasures to my room, and soon my mom came in, eager to see our new clothes.
"Show me what you got!" she urged.
We modeled our new outfits, laughing and celebrating our birthday. Time flew by as we reveled in the joy of the day. Suddenly, my phone rang. I pulled it out of my pocket without checking the screen, still giggling at my mom's jokes about Camilla's new leather pants.
"Shoot," I answered, not paying attention.
"Hey... it's me... Clark," he said.
I glanced at my phone and saw "Dumba**" on the screen. Oh crap, it's Clark. My heart raced as I looked at my watch—it was 10:15 PM. Trying to sound calm, I replied, "Oh hey, Clark... how may I help you?" Knowing all too well why he called made it even harder to stay composed.
He chuckled on the line. "Did my sister talk you out of going on the run with me tonight... or did you forget?"
"Haha... nah, I didn't forget. I just lost track of time. So, what time are we going out?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Well, I'm outside," he replied.
"Ahhhh!" I screamed, throwing my phone onto the bed. Oops. My mom and Camilla stared at me in shock.
"Who was that?" Camilla asked, snatching my phone to check the screen.
"Oh shoot," she said, glancing at her watch. "Damn." She put the phone to her ear and said, "Hey, dumba**, give her a few more minutes... she's coming... control your freaking hormones," then hung up.
"Clark, huh?" my mom chuckled as she walked out of my room, knowing he was the only one who could really get under Camilla's skin.
"Ready, panda?" Camilla asked, tilting her head down at me as I sat on my bed, fidgeting with my fingers.
"Hey," she said, taking my hands in hers. "You mind-link me the moment my stupid idiot of a brother touches you in any way you don't like, okay?"
I smiled. "I'm pretty sure I can handle your brother if he tries anything stupid."
She laughed. "I know, I know... but still, mind-link me so we can team up and kick his a** if needed." Her laughter filled the room as I headed to the bathroom to throw on the ugliest t-shirt and sweatpants I didn't mind ripping apart when I shifted.
I could feel Void stirring, eager for a run and to meet her mate. When we walked out through the backdoor, there he was—Clark in his wolf form. Whoa... he was all black too, but his eyes were a striking grey, just like in his human form.
"Hey girl, you ready?" he called.
I felt Void stirring more insistently, ready to come out for our run. I shifted, giving Void control. Our transition was seamless; I took three steps out the door and suddenly found myself on all fours, staring at my midnight-black paws. My girl. I beamed with pride.
