When his lips met mine, I let him. I closed my eyes and lost myself in the electrifying feeling of his touch. I wrapped my arms around his neck, and he tightened his hold around my waist. When we finally pulled away, our foreheads rested against each other, and I didn't want this moment to end.
"We should finish our food now," I said, chuckling at the intensity of what had just happened. We let go of each other and returned to our seats. Just as I was about to eat, he reached over and pulled my chair next to his. I giggled, shaking my head at his antics.
We continued to eat, our elbows brushing against each other the entire time, relishing the sparks that shot through me with every touch. We talked about everything—from pack business to games, training sessions, and our respective paths as alpha and beta.
After we finished eating, he helped me clean up. We grabbed the remaining Oreos and headed to my room. I wanted privacy, plus the living room lacked a TV, and my parents were probably on their way back.
Once in my room, we settled on the couch, facing the TV, careful to keep a respectful distance from the bed. We turned on the news and chatted about the latest gossip, enjoying the Oreos dipped in Saraja sauce and peanut butter. He teased me about my odd combination at first but eventually admitted he actually enjoyed it.
At some point, I must have drifted off because when I woke up the next day, I was still in my blue dress, sprawled across my bed with a warm hand wrapped around my waist. Turning to my side, I found Clark, his red hair tousled and his eyes closed. He looked beautiful, peaceful in sleep. I buried my face into his chest, inhaling his intoxicating scent, rolling my eyes in bliss.
I was so caught up in his aroma that I didn't realize he was awake until I heard his chuckle. I snapped my head up, only to find him smirking at me. In my flustered surprise, I flinched and rolled away—only to land face-first on the floor with a loud umph and a groan.
Clark erupted in laughter from the bed.
I heard someone burst in through my door while I was trying to get back up. On my knees and look at the intruder just to see my parents staring between me and Clark. My dad folded his hands on his chest and raise an eyebrow at Clark while I lower my head behind the bed to hide from the embarrassment. I heard Clark quickly got off the bed and said, "Good morning, sir...it's not what it looks like...we just fell asleep after...dinner and a movie". I peek up from my bed to see my mom smirking down at me, "ha ha...hey mother...father...um as you can see nothing happened...we are still fully dressed...so everything was pg13 as promised" and I blushed looking back at Clark giggling.
"It's ok...I'm not angry...just surprised that you two are getting along fine", then she winks at me and walk out. "Clark honey...why don't you join us for breakfast", my mom said to Clark and follow my dad out. I let out a loud sigh and Clark came around to help me up."You ok babe...you fell pretty hard", and chuckle. We sat on my bed side by side, "what happened last night" I asked him. "Oh, you don't remember...we kissed and made love on the couch then we moved to the bed...you just can't get your hands off me", he said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and said, "ha ha very funny". Then he pulled me in tight to his chest and whisper, "last night was the best night of my life" and lower his face on the crock of my neck and inhale. Enjoying the sensation of his touch, I held on to shirt to keep him closer then slowly wrap my hands around his waist and tighten my grip. I want this embrace to last forever.
We were pulled out of our little bubble when we heard Alpha Greg's voice in our heads: "Hey, love birds... office now." We both flinched and then burst into laughter.
"We've got to go," I said. Clark kissed me gently between the eyebrows.
"I'll see you at the office, Beta Addison," he winked and walked out of my room. I wanted nothing more than to curl back into bed, but I was a beta now—no time for dilly-dallying. I got ready quickly, slipping on a white blouse tucked into my work jeans and lacing up my combat boots. I grabbed my blazer and headed out the door.
I waved at my parents, letting them know I'd have breakfast at the office, and made my way to the pack house. Once in my office, I sorted through some things and then headed to Clark's office. As I walked in, I found Alpha Greg—well, former Alpha—chatting with Clark.
Clark smiled when he saw me, and his father greeted me with, "Good morning, Beta. I trust you slept well last night?"
I glanced between them and noticed Clark's cheeks were a light shade of pink. Oh great, word travels fast around here. "Yes, I did, Alpha Greg," I said, bowing my head slightly.
"Oh, stop with the formality, Adi... I'm either Papa or Dad to you," he smirked. I looked away, trying to hide my own blush, and took a seat next to him, facing Clark's desk.
"I want to talk to you both about this situation," Greg said, motioning between Clark and me. "What is this?" He looked between us expectantly.
We exchanged unsure glances, neither of us wanting to speak first. "Well... Alpha Greg—I mean, Papa—you know I've always dreamed of being a beta. I never imagined I would be mated to Clark." I glanced at Clark, who had his head down, turning slightly to the left. "I love Clark as my alpha, but I need more time to love him as my mate." I turned back to Greg. "I don't know if I can accept my fate as Luna, but I am ready to be beta, and I'm very grateful that my alphas are supportive of my decision."
"Are you okay with this, son?" Greg asked, looking at Clark.
Clark finally met my gaze and said, "If it makes her happy... yes." His eyes held mine, sincerity shining through.
"Thank you," I mind-linked him.
"For you... anything," he replied in the same way. The softness in his gaze sent electric pulses through my heart. I wanted to jump over his desk and show him just how grateful I was.
Alpha Greg stood and said, "Well, now that's settled... Adi, Ashley will be here next week to start your beta training." He began to walk out.
I stood up abruptly and squealed, "Yes! Ahhh!"
Clark looked up at me, intrigued. "Who's Ashley?"
I turned back to him, my excitement bubbling over. "Ashley is my friend from the capital! She's been helping me with our beta business. She's like my online friend—we chat literally every day. And if she's coming... oh my goddess, she must be the Beta of betas!" I squealed again and rushed out of his office.
Before closing the door, I turned around one last time. "Thanks again, Clark... you're the best!" Then I shut the door behind me, my heart racing with anticipation for what was to come.
