Jody Pov

I began to walk closer to town, in the opposite direction of Daryl. It seemed he was still going to school, but I sure as hell wasn't. Not after that.

As I kept walking, a car pulled up beside me and began slowly following me. "Hey hot stuff, why don't you come suck this dick?" The guy yelled, rolling his window down

I tried to ignore it and just kept walking, picking up my pace

"Come on. Me and you could have a lot of fun!"

Thankfully, I managed to get myself into a shop. But, the car just parked up, and waited. He waited for me to go out. I went up to the counter and asked the shopkeeper, "may I use your phone, ma'am?"

"Sure, honey. Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, im alright. I just need a lift."

At first, I called the dixon trailer looking for Merle but the person who answered the phone was Will so I instantly hung up. I then called my mama, but there was no answer. It was ridiculous to me that I only had 2 places to call, and in the end, I made the agonising decision to call my brother. Low and behold, he picked up the phone

"Hey, this is Maxwell-"

"Max. Its Jody."

"Oh, hey Jody. How have you been? I tried to call yesterday but-"

I interrupted him. "I don't have time for chit chat. I'm at the grocery shop on crows Lane. You've probably drove past it driving to your motel. Can you please pick me up?"

"Erm..yeah, sure. I'll er..I'll be there in a minute."

"Okay. Please hurry. There's a guy in a car waiting outside. He followed me here and I don't wanna leave the shop whilst he's there."

"Alright, Jody. I promise, I'll be as fast as I can."

I then put down the phone and waited, my eyes not leaving the car that was parked. Why did this have to happen on the one day I argue with daryl?

After just a few minutes, my brothers car turned up. I left the shop just as he got out of the car

"Are you alright?" He asked.

Without answering verbally, I shook me head and ran into his arms, wrapping my arms around his waist. Tears fell softly from my cheeks and he awkwardly hugged me back. I was so scared, and just so glad to see a familiar face

"Come on, get in the car and we can talk about what's happened." I nodded my head and wiped my tears before getting in his car.

He drove off and I looked back to check the other car hadn't followed. Thankfully, it had given up and driven in the opposite direction.

Once we were definitely safe, maxwell drove us to an ice cream parlour on the outskirts of town. "What are we doing here?" I asked

"You're sad so I figured now was as good a time as any to get ice cream. Come on, my treat."

I smiled shyly, embarrassed of my behaviour towards him. I hadn't been the most understanding person in the world.

We went into one of the booths and I started to explain everything. I told him about the argument I had with daryl, and the guy in the car. And to finish off, I said, "I am really sorry for how I've treated you. Truthfully, you were a last resort when I was trying to get someone to pick me up. But I'm glad it was you."

"Don't be sorry. It's probably quite a shock finding out you have a brother."

"Not really. I have alot. I think, I was so angry because you don't know what he's like. You can't know. I should be happy for you, because you lived this amazing life. But part of me still resents you for getting him out of prison."

He nodded in understanding. "I am sorry for that. I truly had no idea he was so...horrid. If I had known, I never would've-"

"I know. Its okay."

There was a brief moment of silence before he started to speak again. "About this whole daryl thing, it sounds like there might be a different issue."

"What do you mean?"

"We tend to take our anger out on the people we love most, because we feel comfortable around them and that naturally makes us drop our guard. He probably didn't mean all those things he said, but something else is going on in his mind and that's the only way he could get out his frustrations."

"What could be going on? You think his daddy has gotten worse?" I asked, worried

Max scoffed. "Can he get any worse?"

"You make a fair point. I just don't understand."

"Which is exactly why you need to talk to daryl. He might want space or maybe he'll be grateful to have you there. Whichever the scenario, you're always welcome at the motel."

For the first time, I smiled warmly at him. "Thank you. I genuinely mean that. Thanks for picking me up, and helping me with this."

"No worries. I'm just gonna nip to the loo. I'll be back in a minute."

He left and I sat and finished my triple chocolate sundae. It was incredible and I couldn't help but be grateful that I had a brother. All my other siblings ran when they found out what dad was like. Not that I blame them. But max has stayed.

When he came back, he paid the bill and we were driving back to the trailer park.

"Erm, jody, when I was in the bathroom, something happened."

"Woah. I know we've talked today and I won't deny that we are closer than we were 24 hours ago. But we aren't that close just yet."

"No no. It wasn't anything like that. Some guys from town were talking. Apparently something happened at the school. It might just be rumours but I wanted to prepare you just incase."

I turned to look at him, now worried. "What do you mean? What happened?"

"They were saying that Will Dixon's boy got beat up. Had to be sent home. It sounded pretty bad."

"Oh my god. Fucking shitting Christ!" I yelled, slamming my hands against the dashboard

"Woah woah! What did this car ever do to you? Relax. Hitting the car won't make you feel better."

"It's all my fault. I should've gone to school. They leave us alone when it's just the two of us but it never ends well if we're separated. God, I'm so stupid."

"Don't blame yourself," max tried to calm me down but it wasn't working

"I need to see him," I said
