Alexandra and the pogues sprawled out on her dock, enjoying the final days of June. The sun beamed brightly overhead, casting a warm golden glow across the water. It was one of those endless days, made for drinking beer and getting the most perfect tan.
Alexandra rolled over onto her stomach, adjusting her sunglasses as she called out, "Can someone put sunscreen on my back?"
Kiara began to sit up. "Yeah, I can—"
"I got it!" JJ interrupted, springing up from his towel to grab the sunscreen.
Kiara nodded slowly, leaning back with a dramatic sigh. "Okay," she added awkwardly.
Sarah stifled her laugh, side eyeing JJ as he focused intently on rubbing sunscreen into Alexandra's shoulders.
JJ began running his fingers down her back, inching oddly close to her bikini bottoms as he rubbed in the sunscreen.
"I think you got it, JJ," Alexandra softly laughed, glancing back at him. "Thank you."
Clapping his hands together, he stood back up. "Can never be too protected," he shrugged, lying back on his towel.
"You got me next, JJ?" John B teased, sticking his butt out. "I have a spot I just can't reach."
JJ shoved his body away, cringing. "In your dreams."
Alexandra giggled as John B playfully threw himself onto JJ, who was desperately trying to squirm away.
Sarah took a swig of her beer and leaned her head on Kiara's shoulder. "I forgot to mention we're throwing a party at my place for Alex's birthday."
"It's masquerade themed," Alexandra winked, raising her beer toward Sarah.
Sarah winked back and scolded, "Yeah, JJ, so that means you have to wear something nice."
He scoffed and finally shoved John B off him. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Sarah removed her sunglasses and looked at him, bewildered. "You would wear swim trunks to a wedding."
He took a long sip of his beer and rolled his eyes. "Okay, fine," he sighed.
Pope spoke up, asking curiously, "So, does that mean we have to wear masks?"
"Obviously," Sarah said, glancing at Kiara. "You're helping me with the decorations."
"Perfect, can't wait," Kiara muttered, giving a half-hearted thumbs up.
Over the top of her sunglasses, Alexandra squinted into the distance as Topper's boat was beginning to approach.
Shoving her sunglasses higher on the bridge of her nose, Alexandra grumbled. "Kooks, 2:00."
Sarah sat up onto her arms, and shielded her eyes from the sun. "You've got to be kidding me."
"Here we go," Kiara exhaled, running her hand across her forehead.
Topper started slowing down the boat, which also carried Rafe and two bleach blonde girls whose names Alexandra didn't know, clinging possessively to their arms.
As their boat drew closer, Alexandra slipped off her sunglasses and locked eyes with Rafe, which had remained fixed on her. He stood proudly, with a smug expression as his black sunglasses perched lowly on his nose. The way his lips were curled into a smirk only fueled Alexandra's annoyance. She hated how aware he was of just how good he looked.
