Chapter two: Till we meet again

Sara stood awkwardly beside Shubman as everyone ate their laddoo. She tried to focus on her breathing. In. Out. In. Out. The entire cricket team was in front of her. And instead of being happy, she was just standing there, waiting for the ground to swallow her whole because her so-called friend had not bothered to tell her that she was embarrassing herself in front of THE INDIAN CRICKET TEAM. While she looked calm, her insides were twisting with anxiety. She maintained a calm composure on the outside anyway, being the good actress she was.

Ishaan rung up Shubman's mother- Rekha aunty to tell her how sweet and delicious the laddoo are.

"Gill, tu toh bohot lucky hai," (You're very lucky, Shubman) Yashaswi said, smiling. "Agli baar bhi launga besan ke laddoo" (I'll get you the sweets next time, too) Shubman replied, smiling.

"Laddoo tumne laaye the aaj?" (You brought the laddoos today?) Sara whispered, annoyed.

"No, uh...I mean," he said softly, tilting his head towards her.

"I hate you," she whispered with gritted teeth.

"Oh come on,"

"No, you're getting on my nerves today," she said.

"I didn't even do anything!" He defended.

"Oh, you didn't?" She said, crossing her arms, raising her brow, and Shubman raised in hands in defeat

"All right, I'm sorry,"

"Uh, anyway, I should I guess leave now," she whispered. Shubman scratched the back of his neck and turned towards her. No, don't go.

"Uh yeah, sure. You're leaving for Mumbai?"

"Uh no, I have to go for work," she mumbled. "In Chennai- I didn't come just for your match,"

"Aye, aye tera naam kya hai?" (What is your name?) Rohit asked, gesturing to Sara.

"Uh, mera naam?" (Uh, my name?) she asked, getting a little conscious. "Sara, Sara Gupte"

"Thank you, haa, you got us laddoo. If you ever want VIP lounge passes, just tell me, okay?" He said and Sara's eyes widened in shock. "Wait me, really?"

"Haa, I'll tell my wife about Shubman's special friend and she'll be happy to arrange tickets for you whenever you want- you know, just nice captaincy perks,"

"Oh my God, thank you" she spoke in a higher pitch, her hands shaking in excitement. She again tugged on Shubman's sleeve, jumping a little. Sara felt a surge of excitement that she even ignored the entire 'Shubman's special friend' comment. She couldn't wait to tell her father, the look on his face would be priceless. Sara wanted to break into a song or start dancing, but she composed herself, knowing very well that she had embarrassed herself enough in front of some of the finest sportsmen in the country. Her heart fluttered with a joy, and she felt like a superstar celebrity.

The captain of the cricket team liked her? Oh, this was a dream lottery for so many.

Shubman, on the other hand was stuck on the 'special friend' part of Rohit bhai's sentence. The thought that he liked Sara and would go and tell Ritika bhabhi about her made his heart feel warm and cozy. What am I thinking? Stop thinking. Thoughts no.

"Tune suna kya? Tune suna?" (Did you listen?) Sara asked eagerly and her 'special friend' nodded. Shubman couldn't help but smile as Sara adorned a huge grin, and was so happy that she was glowing.

"Yeah yeah, I heard" he shrugged it off, trying not to feel whatever he was feeling looking at her smile.

"Dude, the captain of the ICT likes me- ME, I won, I won, I literally won, you lost," she said the last part laughing.
