We were on the road until the sun broke through the dark sky. We stopped underneath a large shade tree, and took a break.
"I'm so tired." I yawned. I pulled some dried venison.
"Yeah. You get some sleep, I'm not tired." Cian said. He set himself up against the tree and stared off into the distance.
Wonder what he's thinking about? I thought, the. Quickly fell asleep on the cold ground.*Third person point of view*
Diana lay there on the cold, frosted ground. Her shawl was under her, and she was wrapped in her cloak. Cian looked over and saw that she was still shivering slightly, so he placed a spare blanket on her.
"She's cute when she sleeps." He said to himself. "Her hair falls over her face, and she curls up into a ball. Just like my sis...," Cian swallowed. "Just like my sister did."
"I need to sleep too, but we can't both be sleeping.", Cian said with a sigh. His eyes started to close, but he would snap them back open. This lasted for a few minutes, until he finally gave in and fell into a deep slumber.
"Son! Take your sister and get out of here!" The king said with blood dripping from a head wound.
"Yes father, but what about mother!?" Cian cried, smoke was getting in his lungs.
"She's dead. Go, and I'll spare you some time." The king sad. He handed Cian a ebony ring that had an onyx stone embedded in it. There was words engraved in the ring, but the smoke blurred Cian's vision. "Go son!" Cian heard the King yell. There was the sound of swords clashing, and loud thunderous roars. Cian ran, his sister was thrown over his shoulder. She was heavy, but he had to carry her. She was unconscious, and hardly moving. There was a broken arrow shaft stuck into her side.
"Hang in there Eliza! Please don't die on me!" Cian cried. Cian knew he was being chased. He could hear the sounds of armor hitting against the stone floors. Cian saw a small light far down in the smoke filled hallway.
As Cian came closer to the light, the men following him got closer. Cian was almost there when he felt a sudden and unbearable pain come from his thigh. He glanced down and saw an arrow sticking out of where the pain was coming from.
Right before he made it to the exit, he collapsed on the ground. His sister's lifeless body draped over him. He tried to crawl out of the burning castle, but the smoke was thickening, and his lungs couldn't take it anymore. He blacked out.Cian woke with a start. He was sweating, but the air was frigid. His hand went to the place he was in pain, his upper thigh, and rested his hand there.
"It was only a nightmare." He said, then corrected himself. "No, something that happened in the past."
"Huh?" Diana said as she sat up. She yawned then curled up against Cian. "You're warm." She then fell back asleep.
Cian patted her head, then looked out at the frozen meadows before him.
I want to be free, and live a happy life. A happy life, free of pain and sorrow.
