"Si..si si si Raphael...sto bene...e solo superficiale...no...Maya e tutta la protezione di cui ho bisogno...Bacia Zia Sophia per noi...ci sentiamo presto...ciao...ciao ciao.."
Maya looked up from her phone as Carina came into their room, tossed her phone on the bed and headed into the bathroom.
"Everything ok babe?"
Carina mumbled a response as Maya reached over and plugged her wife's phone in before turning to set her own phone on the nightstand.  She looked up as Carina shut the light off and climbed into bed, immediately moving to her safe space inside Maya's embrace.
"Hold me."
Pulling her close, Maya kissed Carina's forehead and rested her cheek against her wife's hair.
"I'm never letting go."
They laid in silence for a few minutes before Carina spoke.
"If something had happened to me last night-"
"Don't say that."
"Bambina..per favore...if something had happened to me last night, what would you have done about Andrea's gift?"
Maya took a deep breath and swallowed before answering.
"I would have gone through with it.  And I would have raised all our children to be just like you.  But Carina, I would have never been the same, without you I'm only half of myself."
"You know I say that every time you leave for a shift?  And lately there have been so many calls you've been on that are so dangerous."
"I know and I'm sorry Principessa.  I really have been trying to be as careful as I can, but I'm training this squad so that they will be able to be the best.   And once I know they are ready, I promise you I'll scale back.  But you have to understand that they are my legacy in SFD just like me, Andy, Vic and everyone have been for Pruitt."
Carina pressed herself closer and hugged Maya tightly.
"And after you finish this race, are you planning on starting a new career?"
Maya reached down, put her finger under Carina's chin and turned her face up to look at her.
"I'm exploring options my love, but I won't make any decisions without discussing it with you first."
"Then why are Kate and Lucy flying in?"
"How did y-"
"Bambina, Lucy and I chat quite often.  She can't wait to meet the girls."
Maya chuckled and shook her head as she leaned down to gently kiss Carina.

"Get off me! No! Stop!"
Maya woke up with a start at feeling Carina's fists pounding against her as she yelled.
"Carina...it's ok...I'm here...you're safe..."
Before she could grab her wrist, Carina's fist connected with Maya's jaw and Maya felt the force behind it.  Wrapping her arms around her wife, Maya hugged her tightly as Carina began screaming and thrashing into her chest.  Leaning close to her ear, Maya called her name with authority.
"Carina! Wake up!"
Sucking her breath in, Carina's eyes flew open as she stared at Maya.
"You're ok, you're here with me, you're safe."
Without a word, Carina straddled herself on top of Maya and leaned in to kiss her fiercely.  Maya returned the kiss and as she pulled away, tasted blood.  Looking down at her wife's lips, Maya saw that the split had opened up.
"Your lip is bleeding."
"I don't care...devi scoparmi adesso."
Carina pulled her cami off and moved Maya on top of her as she rolled onto her back and kissed Maya again, hard.  Returning the kiss, Maya reached for Carina's breasts and began rubbing them, feeling herself start to get wet as Carina began moaning and pressed Maya's shoulders to force her down her body.  Stopping to suck on her wife's tight nipples, Maya moved her hands down Carina's body and hooked her fingers onto the waistband of her wife's pants, sliding them down her thighs. As she began kissing her way down her wife's body, Maya stopped when she noticed the bruise across Carina's abdomen.
"Is this...from your attack?"
"Maya...per favore...scopami adesso..."
Maya stared into Carina's eyes for a moment as Carina bit the good side of her lip and lifted her hips up to Maya's chin.  Tilting her head down, Maya buried her face into Carina's folds and feasted on her wife as Carina moaned in pleasure.

Maya stroked Carina's head and listened as her wife quietly snored, her bare skin pressed tightly to Maya's body.  She'd given Carina multiple orgasms and had even felt herself climax at the intensity of their lovemaking.  When Maya had finally satisfied Carina enough, she had pulled her close as Carina drifted quickly off to sleep.  Lying there, Maya kept trying to not get too anxious at the thought of what life would have been like if the mugging had turned out differently.  How would she have explained to Liam and the twins that their beautiful and strong and perfect mamma was never going to hold them again? In a moment of irony, the baby monitor went off and Maya heard Andrea fussing.  Kissing Carina's head softly, Maya slid herself off the bed, pulling her pillow down for Carina to cuddle against as Maya grabbed her sweats and pulled them on.  She reached for her hoodie and dragged it over her head as she made her way down the hall.
"What's going on my little love?"
Maya picked Andrea up and held her close.
"Do you need a change?  Come on, let's get you settled."
Laying her on the changing table, Maya quickly swapped out the diaper and bundled Andrea back up.  Picking her up again, Maya walked out into the hallway and toward the living room.
"Let's stay out here for a minute so we don't wake your sister, hmmm?"
They walked around the living room in silence as Maya smiled contently at Andrea.
"You look just like your Mamma, you know that?  Do you know I wished for you a long time ago but I didn't even know that my wish would be not just for you, but for your brother and sister too?  Mamma knew though, she always knows and that's why we all have to keep her safe, because she is what we call in firefighting an anchor point.  Just like in my previous life, the runner who brought it all home was the anchor leg.  I did that for a little while, but my d-my coach, didn't want me to be part of a team.  He wanted me to be a solo act.  So I switched to cross country and long distance.  It isolated me and I forgot about needing that anchor point...until Mamma walked into the bar and asked to buy me a drink.  Mamma means everything to me and I would do anything for her.  I have to talk to your Auntie Katie when she gets here, but if everything works out, we might just be adding to our little family."
Andrea stared up at Maya, smiled and raspberried her.
