——————The rain outside tapped gently on the windows, filling the room with a calming white noise as you lay sprawled on the couch, a cozy blanket wrapped around your shoulders. Chappell sat beside you, close enough that her warmth seeped through the fabric. You looked over, only to find her gazing at you, a soft smile on her lips.
"Y'know," she murmured, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, "I think rainy days are my favourite. Especially when I have someone to share them with."
You felt your cheeks warm, but you kept it casual, resting your head back on the couch. "Guess I'm pretty lucky, then, to be here with you," you replied, nudging her shoulder playfully.
Chappell let out a laugh, and the sound filled the room, mingling with the patter of rain outside. Her laughter was infectious, and soon you found yourself giggling along, even though neither of you had said anything funny. It was just... her. Something about being around her made you feel light, as if the world outside didn't exist.
As the laughter died down, she shifted closer, pulling the blanket over her legs, too. Now your thighs were pressed together, her hand resting casually on your knee as she leaned onto you.
"You're warm," she said, her voice soft.
"Yeah? Maybe you just run cold," you teased, glancing over at her.
She stuck her tongue out, a playful glint in her eyes. "Or maybe you're just my personal heater now. You didn't know you were signing up for that when you came over, did you?"
"Oh, absolutely not," you joked, rolling your eyes. "Next time, I'm bringing a contract. I want written proof of all cuddle obligations and warmth expectations."
Her face lit up with a mischievous grin. "A cuddle contract? I could totally get behind that. Maybe we could add a clause for back rubs, too."
You scoffed, feigning exasperation. "Oh, so now I'm a back rub provider too?"
"Well..." She leaned in close, her gaze meeting yours. For a moment, the playful atmosphere faded, leaving an electric charge in the air. "You're pretty good at it. Besides, who else am I gonna ask?"
You held her gaze, heart pounding. It was so easy to get lost in these moments with Chappell, to forget that this was just... friendship. Friends cuddling on a rainy day. Friends giving each other back rubs. Totally normal, right?
"Fine," you said, voice barely above a whisper. "But only because it's you."
Her eyes softened, and she reached up, brushing a thumb across your cheek. "I like that. It makes me feel special."
You blinked, caught off guard by the tenderness in her voice. "You are special, Chappell," you murmured, without thinking.
The words hung in the air, heavier than you intended. She seemed to take them in, her smile turning shy. For a moment, you could swear she was about to say something, but then she just nudged you, her tone light again.
"Alright, so where's this back rub I was promised?"
You laughed, breaking the tension as she lay down on top of you, nuzzling into your chest. You began to gently run your hands up, down and around her small back, smiling softly down at her.
"See? This is why you're my favourite," she muttered, eyes closed, a small smile playing on her lips.
"Oh, so I'm just here to be your favourite masseuse now?" you teased, fingers pressing gently into the knots in her shoulders.
