Last Day.

The sun was just beginning to rise over the cabin on their last morning, casting a soft, golden light over the forest and filling the cool air with a gentle warmth. Despite the early hour, everyone was awake, buzzing with a mix of excitement and melancholy as they prepared for one last day of hiking, laughter, and memories together.

In the living room, Jace and Vivienne were quietly chatting by the window, both still a little sleepy but grinning as they exchanged subtle smiles and whispered jokes. Across the room, Lydia and Sophia nudged each other, rolling their eyes with smirks as they watched the two interact.

"Think they'll ever stop flirting?" Sophia whispered with a laugh.

"Not a chance," Lydia replied, crossing her arms with a knowing grin. "But it's kinda cute, in a weird way."

Just then, Cassandra stepped into the room, her hands on her hips. "All right, everyone ready for one last hike? We've got a beautiful trail planned, and breakfast afterward."

Everyone agreed with a cheerful nod, grabbing their backpacks, water bottles, and jackets as they headed out the door. The trail they chose was just a short walk from the cabin, winding up through the trees and opening to a stunning view of the mountains beyond. The early morning light filtered through the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the ground as they walked, chatting and laughing along the way.

Vivienne found herself beside Jace, their shoulders brushing as they walked in easy, comfortable silence. Every now and then, he'd reach over to steady her when the trail grew uneven, his hand warm and steady against hers.

"Think you'll miss this place?" he asked softly, glancing over at her with a smile.

"Definitely," she replied, looking out over the trees. "But mostly, I think I'll miss moments like this."

He looked down, his smile growing as he squeezed her hand. "Same here. Guess we'll just have to plan another trip soon."

"Deal," she replied with a grin, giving his hand a gentle squeeze back.

They continued hiking, taking in the views and pausing now and then to snap a few last photos. Serena led the way up ahead, her laughter echoing through the trees as she darted back and forth, collecting leaves and acorns as souvenirs. Cassandra and Evangeline followed close behind, chatting and reminiscing about past family trips, while Sebastian and Nathaniel shared an easy conversation about hiking trails they might try in the future.

After a while, they reached a lookout point at the top of the trail, where they stopped to take in the view one last time. The mountains stretched out before them, bathed in soft morning light, and everyone stood quietly for a moment, letting the beauty of the place sink in.

"Perfect spot for a group photo," Sebastian said, pulling out his phone.

They gathered close, laughing as they tried to fit everyone into the frame. Jace wrapped an arm around Vivienne's shoulders, and she leaned into him, smiling as the shutter clicked, capturing a moment they'd all remember.

With the hike complete, they made their way back to the cabin, where they gathered up their things and headed to a nearby restaurant for a final breakfast together. The restaurant was cozy, with warm wood paneling and a crackling fireplace that filled the room with a comforting glow. They took their seats at a large table by the window, ordering a spread of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and fresh fruit.

As they waited for their food, Jace and Vivienne continued their quiet flirtation, exchanging glances and soft laughter as they shared little inside jokes from the trip. At one point, Jace stole a sip from Vivienne's hot chocolate, pretending to inspect it with a critical expression.

"Not bad," he said, smirking as he handed it back to her. "But I think mine's better."

She raised an eyebrow, feigning offense. "Oh, really? I beg to differ."

They traded sips, laughing and playfully arguing over whose drink was the best as the others watched with amused smiles.

"You two are impossible," Lydia muttered, shaking her head but unable to hide her grin. "Can you even go five minutes without flirting?"

Jace shrugged, flashing a cheeky smile. "Probably not. Why stop a good thing?"

Vivienne laughed, giving him a playful shove. "Exactly. I say we keep it going."

The food arrived, and everyone dug in, savoring the hearty breakfast and sharing stories from the trip. Serena regaled the table with tales of her "fashion expertise" from their shopping day, while Sophia and Lydia recounted their favorite moments from the hikes.

Once the plates were empty and the coffee cups drained, they lingered at the table, reluctant to leave. The parents exchanged fond looks, clearly content with the week they'd shared, while the kids laughed over their inside jokes, each one adding another layer to the memories they'd made.

Finally, it was time to head back to the cabin, pack up, and get ready for the drive home. They loaded up their cars in the driveway, taking one last look at the cabin that had been their home away from home. Everyone gathered in the parking lot, exchanging hugs and reluctant goodbyes.

"Well, that was one for the books," Nathaniel said, clapping Jace on the shoulder with a smile.

"It definitely was," Cassandra agreed, hugging Vivienne. "Can't wait for the next one."

Jace gave Vivienne one last smile as they loaded into separate cars. "Guess I'll see you soon?"

"Definitely," she replied, her eyes bright. "Don't be a stranger."

As the cars pulled out of the driveway, Jace and Vivienne exchanged one last wave through the window, both smiling at the memories of a week they'd never forget.
