Raymonte's POV
"Stop poutin', mijo." My dad told me, making me turn to see him smiling at me. My frown only got deeper, which made him reach over to ruffle my hair. "America isn't that bad, Raymonte. You'll end up liking it here, I promise."
"No." I muttered while crossing my arms.
He rolled his eyes at me and mumbled under his breath, probably calling me a brat. We both stayed silent as he pulled up in front of the school I'd just been transferred to. Before I could get out of the car, my dad stopped me with a hand on my shoulder, making me turn to look at him. "Monte, I know this is different." He started gently. "I know you didn't want to move to America... I know you're still upset about your mother—But this is what she would've wanted. For us to move on, for us to do better with our lives. I brought you here to give you better chances in life, and though you might not understand it right now, I hope that one day you'll appreciate it..." He trailed off, then leaned forward to kiss my forehead. "Have a good first day, okay?"
