Y/N paced back and forth in the living room of the small house that belonged to his adopted parents. His best friend, Vito Scaletta, had gotten arrested during a small job that Joe was pulling with him.

Y/N: Joe, how did this happen?!

Joe dumped the bag full of jewelry onto the coffee table, scratching his stubble, and then began pacing himself.

Joe: It all happened so fast! Fuck! Everything was going fine. Vito filled the bag, and a cop walked around the corner. We ran, and then we had to jump a fence. I made it over and Vito tossed me the bag. Right before he could make it, the cop had his finger on his fuckin' trigger!

Joe and Y/N sat down on the living room couch, letting what happened sink in.

Joe: How long do you think he'll be in the can?

Y/N: I don't think he will. From what I hear, they usually give people like him two choices. Either go to prison or get enlisted into the army. There's a war going on, Joe. Knowing Vito, that's where he'll choose to go.

Joe would honestly rather Vito choose to do the time, rather than getting shot to death on some battlefield.

Y/N: Alright. Here's what we're gonna do. You find a buyer for the jewelry. There's enough here to get us cash that will last for a good while.

Joe: What about you?

Y/N took a little bit longer to contemplate, they aren't out of the woods yet. Vito will not snitch, but investigators are a thing.

Y/N: I'll stay here. If any detectives come here deciding they wanna ask questions, I'll send them away and give Derek a call. He can't help Vito, but he will be able to fix the situation for us if anything happens.

Joe: Right, sounds good. . .

Joe took in a few deep breaths before putting the jewelry back in the bag and heading outside to go and sell it off. He can't sell them to any legitimate people, because they will be on alert due to the recent burglary. But there are a few people that the two brothers know of who will gladly take the jewels

Y/N continued to sit, thinking about his friend. It's a dog eat dog world. It was at this moment that a promise was made.

Y/N: I promise, Vito. Me and Joe will have your back. You get out of this war alive. We'll make all the money we can dream of, have whatever we want. Hell, even if we have to make new lives, we'll make it.
