A/N I made an alteration to the debt section of the story, some people might find it significant and boring. But it's realistic given Y/N's close connection to the Scaletta's. And it won't harm the overall plot.
Vito knocked on an apartment door that had the name 'Scaletta' on it. His excitement to see his family grew as he heard frail footsteps approach the door.
An older woman opened the door. It was his mother. Maria's face lit up with excitement and joy.
Vito: Hi, mama. I'm back.
Maria hugged her son, all the fear that he would die in battle completely washing away.
Maria: Vito! My boy! My boy is home! I thought I would never see you again! Francesca and me, we wait and we wait for you!
Maria let Vito inside and closed the door. Vito and Francesca hugged. Of course his sister was as happy to see him as their mother was. Maria was eager for them to have the first family dinner they've had since Vito went away.
Maria: Come, sit down, sit down. You must be hungry Vito. Francesca made you a special dinner. Zuppa di pollo. It's good for you.
Maria brought a cooking pot full of soup over to the small dinner table where she used a spoon to fill everyone's bowls.
Vito: Wow, looks good, Frankie.
Maria: It's a shame your papa didn't live to see this. He would be so proud, Vito.
Vito: Yeah. . . sure.
Vito went to eat but Maria lightly smacked his hand. He may have had a rough time, but thanks should still be given where thanks is due.
Maria: Vito! You know better.
Vito: Sorry, mama. Sorry.
All three bowed their heads to pray.
Vito, Maria, and Francesca: Bless us, O Lord. And these thy gifts for which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ our Lord. Amen. . .

After eating, Vito wanted to catch up before.
Vito: So, Frankie. Whatcha been up to?
Francesca: I still live here with mama. I did get a nice office job. It pays the bills. I was worried that most of it would go to papa's debts. But Y/N helped us with it, and we got it all paid off!
Vito leaned in, surprised that he would put in that much effort.
Vito: Really?
Maria: I was worried, that he had a got dirty money from Joe. But he convinced me that he didn't. Thank the Lord he's not like his brother.
Vito and Francesca looked at each other. The less Maria knows, the better.
Maria changed the topic, this family debt was a terrible part of their lives, and she wants to move away from it.
Maria: But enough about this. How are you, mia bambino? It must have been so terrible. I was so afraid. I prayed for you everyday.
Vito: I'm okay, ma. I drove a Jeep most of the time. Sometimes I had to fight.
Of course this only soothed Maria's worry of Vito's wellbeing just a little. He was shot after all.
Vito: So, Frankie. Got a boyfriend yet?
Francesca's cheeks tinted red a little as she responded.
Francesca: Yeah. You actually know him.
Maria laughed, her response to embarrass her daughter.
Maria: You know him very well, Vito. He's a friend of yours.
Francesca: Mama! We agreed that we wouldn't give him any hints.
Vito's facial expression turned to that of disgust.
Vito: Oh God, please tell me it's not Joe.
Maria and Francesca recoiled at the thought. Now things were awkward.
Francesca: Vito, NO!!!
Vito: Oh, thank Christ. Okay, I think I know who it is. Jeez. Okay, I'm tired, I'll see you two in the morning.
Vito stood up and walked to his room, he's very tired. And happy to be able to sleep in a bed instead of a bunk or a hole for once.
He laid down on his old bed and quickly fell asleep.
