When Rishabh returned from a late night from the office, he found Avni lying on the couch, her eyes glassy and her speech slurred. Concern etched his features as he rushed to her side. He made her lay into bed. He was about to leave but Avni hold his hand. Her eyes was closed. She was fully drunk
Avni(in drunk voice)-Please don't go
Rishabh-Ya I'm here
Avni(in drunk voice)-Siddharth...
Rishabh couldn't make out why she took his name
Rishabh-What are you saying?
Avni(in drunk voice)-Siddharth please don't leave me. I can't live without you. I love you Siddharth
The words hung in the air. Rishabh froze, his heart pounding in his chest. He never realised that Avni had feelings for Sid. He sat on the edge of the bed, staring at her, unsure of what to do or say.
The silence stretched out for few minutes. Finally, Rishabh found his voice
Rishabh- You love Sid...?
The words containing a lots of pain. Avni's eyes fluttered open for a moment. She slowly closed her eyes and passed out. Rishabh's world came crashing down around him, the walls of the room closing in until he could hardly breathe. The night passed. He was sitting at the same place because he had no energy left in her body to move. He was remembering the time when he first met Avni. Meanwhile Avni wake up with a headache. She saw Rishabh is sitting on the edge of the bed. She tapped his shoulder. He came out of his thoughts and stand up
Avni-Are you ok?
Rishabh-Ya ya I'm ok
He went inside washroom without making any eye contact with Avni. At the time of breakfast Rishabh avoided Sid. He was unable to look at him, the man who had stolen his wife's heart. He knew that he should step aside, to let his brother have the happiness he deserved. But the thought of losing her was a pain that was almost too much to bear.
In the next few days, Rishabh watched Sid and Avni from afar, he observed Sid's eyes also contains feelings for Avni. He also noticed Sid's eyes contained a lot of pain, which he couldn't notice till now. Rishabh's heart was torn between his love for his brother and the woman he thought would be his life forever. With a heavy heart, he decided to have a talk with Sid.

Rishabh approached Sid in the library, the room filled with the scent of old books and leather. He took a deep breath, making himself ready for the conversation that would change their lives forever.
"Sid," he began, his voice low and measured
Rishabh-I know about you and Avni
Sid's eyes shot up from the book he was pretending to read, his heart racing
Sid-What are you talking about?"
"Don't lie to me," Rishabh said gently. "I heard her last night. I know she loves you. And I think... I think you also love her. May be it's time for me to step aside."
Sid stared at him, stunned. The pain in Rishabh's eyes was clear, but so was the love and sacrifice that shone through.
Sid-Rishabh, I had no idea what are you talking about. I've no feelings for her
Rishabh couldn't control himself and punch Sid hardly
Sid-Rishabh have you became mad?
Rishabh hold Sid's collar
Rishabh-Yes I'm. But I don't want you to be mad. Go and get your love. Otherwise you'll regret forever
Tears flow from Sid's eyes. He fell in his knees
Sid-I never meant for this to happen
Rishabh made him stand, a sad smile playing on his lips
Rishabh-I know you didn't. But it has. And I can't live with the thought of her being with me when her heart is with you
The two men stood there, the silence stretching out between them like a tightrope, until Sid spoke again
Sid-What do you want me to do?
Rishabh took a deep breath
Rishabh-I want you to be with her. I want you both to be happy. But you have to promise me one thing
Sid waited, his heart pounding.
"Promise me," Rishabh continued, "that you'll always take care of her. And that you'll never let her go."
Sid nodded, his eyes brimming with tears. "I promise."
And so, the wheels of fate were set in motion. Rishabh knew that he was giving up his own happiness for the sake of his brother's, but he couldn't bear to see Sid suffer any longer.
