The human heart is a complex and resilient organ, caple of incredible strength and profound vulnerability
it beats,on average, more than 100,000 times a day, pumping life through our veins and carrying our hopes, dreams and fears. but the heart isn't just about survival; it's the center of our emotions, our connections, and our relationships.

maddison montgomery watched as the plane started to fill up, she was sitting right at the back in a window seat. she was hoping no one would take up the two seats next to her so she could sleep. she had gone out the night prior and was extremely hungover.

"cabin crew, prepare for take off" maddison heard over the intercom. thank god. no one was sitting next to her. putting in her headphones, she lay across the two seats and began to fall asleep. wishing life could've turned out differently.

slowly opening her eyes, maddison heard the intercom turn on "cabin crew, prepare for landing". oh god this is it. this is actually happening. i'm actually moving to seattle. turning her phone off flight mode, she looked to see if any messages had come through.

TWO NEW MESSAGES
hunter:please maddie lets just talk.
i was drunk, this doesn't change the way i feel about you

ams:have a safe flight
baby girl ;)

she sighed as she read hunter's message then quickly deleted it. pulling out her bag from the overhead compartment, maddison opened her phone and shot off a quick reply to her bestfriend (ams), then attempted to find a hotel to stay for the night. her surgical internship started tomorrow and she still hadn't found a place to live so a hotel would have to do.

walking though tacoma international airport, maddison collected her tiger striped bag. in all other situations having this bag had been embarrasing but atleast she knew no one would walk away with her bag.

the cold air of seattle hit her, and so did the rain. maddison had read online that it rained 85% of the year in seattle but surely that wasn't fully true.

"where to ma'am" the taxi driver asked maddison looking back at her.

"seattle grace hospital" she said, sliding into her seat.

the drive to the hospital was stunning, living in new york for the last few years maddison had half forgotten that mountains actually exist. getting out the taxi, she hauled her stuff out the trunk. maybe this was a bad idea, coming to the hospital with all her luggage. standing outside the hospital, a massive sigh of relief escaped maddisons mouth. she was here. finally.

looking around she scanned all the different people, a man smoking, a woman applying lipgoss and a man on the phone. she looked at the man who was on the phone and stopped. it couldn't be. not here. not now. not at maddison's fresh start. but it was.

derek shepherd, her sisters husband or ex husband she wasn't sure at this point what their relatiobship status was, nor did she care. it looked like derek was ending the phone call. fuck. he was going to see and her highly embarrasing suitcase. scanning for a place to hide she hauled her suitcases behind the bulding. finally relaxing at the fact derek couldn't see her. she slid down the wall. maddison fired off a text to her beloved sister addison. peeking up from the wall she looked around, thank god he was gone.
