Lex
Monday morning dawns dark and rainy, and the weekend feels like a distant memory as I head into school. The halls are bustling, students crowding every corner, and I weave through them, hoping to go unnoticed. I make it halfway down the hall when I catch sight of Tate, standing against a locker with his usual smirk as he talks to a few friends. I speed up, hoping to avoid him, but he spots me almost instantly.
"Lexi!" His voice cuts through the noise, stopping me in my tracks.
I clench my teeth, keeping my expression as neutral as possible as I turn to face him. "What do you want, Tate?"
He steps away from the locker, his hands casually in his pockets, but there's something calculated in his eyes. "We need to talk," he says, his tone cool and serious.
"Right now?" I glance around, hoping the crowd will somehow shield me from this encounter, but his gaze doesn't waver.
"Right now." He motions toward a more secluded area of the hallway, and reluctantly, I follow, my heart pounding a little faster with each step.
When we're out of earshot of most students, he leans in slightly, his expression unreadable. "You know, you've been dodging something, Lex."
I blink, confused. "What are you talking about?"
He studies me for a second, a trace of amusement in his eyes. "The debt, Lex. You owe me, remember?"
I stare at him, my stomach twisting with irritation. "Debt? I have no idea what you're talking about."
He tilts his head, a smug smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "I think you do."
Frustrated, I cross my arms. "Look, if this is some kind of joke, it's not funny. I don't owe you anything."
Tate chuckles, but there's an edge to it, a hint of something more intense than his usual casual indifference. "Trust me, you'll want to take care of this. I'll give you a little time, but don't forget, okay?"
Before I can ask more, he turns and walks away, leaving me standing there with a mix of anger and confusion. What does he mean by "debt"? I replay the past few weeks in my mind, trying to figure out what he's talking about, then as if lightning has struck me i remember what he means.
The mess with me skating into him covering him in water. That's rigth he did say i owe him for that. I frown, but why should i pay him back for that when all he does is treating me like dirt.
The bell rings, jolting me back to reality, and I hurry to class, his words echoing in my head.
