Mere hours after encountering David at the hospital, I saw him again. Only, the circumstances in which I saw him were not pleasing to me.
I was curled up on my sofa while watching the evening news when pictures of Keller Dover and the Dover family were splashed across the screen in front of me. The reporter, a cheery blonde, was explaining that Keller's body had been found this evening on the same property where Anna was found. The news then cut to an on-the-scene interview with Detective Loki. I sat up in my seat, leaning in to the screen. My eyes were wide with fascination as he spoke about the events that had taken place.
"Detective," the tall blonde started. "How were you and your team able to discover Mr. Dover's body in what seems to be a concealed hole on this property?"
David ran a hand over his face, as he gave that familiar double-blink before answering.
"My team and I were continuing the proper search of the property belonging to Holly Jones this evening, which involved uncovering the concealed hole in which Keller Dover was found."
It truly startled me just how professional and put-together he could be, given the circumstances. He remained stone-cold for the entire interview as I searched his polar blue eyes for any glimmer of feeling.
There was none.
"And so, are you able to disclose whether or not Keller Dover was found alive or dead this evening?" The reporter seemed to be hanging off of David's every word, no doubt thirsty for a story that no other station had picked up yet. David only dropped his gaze to the ground for a moment before slowly lifting his head to meet the blonde woman's gaze.
"There will be an official announcement from the Sheriff later tonight when we have all of the information and we have talked with the family," David finished in a flat tone.
"Thank you Detective, for all of your work on this case," she chirped into her microphone. He gave a solemn nod before turning away. The reporter fixed her gaze back on to the camera lens as she continued to speak about the story.
"Joy birch and Anna Dover were abducted on November twenty-eighth of this year and were discovered in early December. After both girls were returned home safely, Keller Dover-- father of one of the victims-- was presumed missing. It has been three days since anyone has seen or heard from him, until tonight with the dedication of our trusted detectives and police force here in Conyers that are tirelessly investigating this case. This has been Hope McFee reporting, back to the newsroom."
Immediately after the report had finished, I turned the screen of my television off. I found myself uninterested in the other stories that they had to offer me, still stunned due to the events that had just taken place this evening. Before I knew it, I was flying off of my sofa and heading towards my car. I started the engine and my car immediately began to purr, telling me that it was time to take off.

I drove straight to the hospital that evening, though my shift had ended earlier that day. As I entered, everyone around me was buzzing around like bees in a hive; they all had somewhere to be and a job to be doing, much too busy to pay attention to anything around them. In the few years I had worked here, I had never seen the hospital in such a state of chaos before, besides the day that the girls were found. It was an all-hands on deck situation which was why I had rushed over. I saw many of my over-worked peers running back and forth between rooms, pulling the right and wrong files for others and trying their best to tend to patients while still getting in on all of the action. Suddenly, I could hear distant cries that I knew were only from Grace Dover. Whether or not they were tears of relief or grief, I could not decipher. My heart truly hurt for her in that moment, and I had to fight with myself to not go after her and try to reassure her that everything would be taken good care of, regardless of how this all would end. But instead, I was given desk duties. I was in charge of pulling files, checking charts and making sure the books were in order to ensure that this situation could all be dealt with properly.
One of the newer nurses approached me, out of breath and hunched over. She asked me if I could check on her elderly patient while she ran up to a different floor to turn over some paperwork. I agreed, handed her the stack of papers and sent her on her way while I headed towards her patient's room.
