Troye's pov
I was woken up by someone shaking me. I slowly opened my eyes and saw my sister, Sage.
"Get up! The bus will be here in like 15 minutes!"
I quickly got out of bed, and ushered my sister out of the room I shared with my brother, Steele. He had graduated high school last year and now works the morning shift at McDonalds. Having to be there by 5:30 a.m. I only ever saw him after I got home from school. It wasn't ideal, but this was the only job he could get to help provide for the family. Being failures we had little money, and we all chipped in as much as we could to pay for food and basic essentials. Last year when I entered freshman year I applied as a waiter at Hart's and I've been working there since. Now that Sage is a freshman she has started babysitting some of the younger kids in the neighborhood.
I hurriedly went through my dresser trying to decide what to wear. I settled on an old blue sweater and some black skinny jeans, the only jeans I owned. I left my curls hanging loose on my forehead and threw on a pair of black platform shoes, which I'd received as a hand me down from a girl, a few years older than me, who lived down the street. I didn't care they were "girls shoes". I liked them and I was grateful that I had shoes on my feet.
I slung my backpack over my shoulder and ran out to the bus stop where I waited with Sage, and my little brother, Tyde. I was a bit irritated that I ran here when the bus hadn't even arrived yet. I didn't like sports, or any kind of physical activity. I would much rather spend my days on tumblr.
As a sophomore I was now required to have a laptop for school. I used the one Steele had used and I was perfectly fine with that. I remember having to put all of my spare change in a jar for a year when my parents found out it was required. Now we were doing the same thing for Sage and Tyde, and I had just contributed the $20 that I had been tipped to the savings. When I wasn't using the laptop for school I would scroll through tumblr, and watch youtube videos. Between school and work I didn't have much time for it, but I made time by spending my nights on the addicting website. I would be on tumblr for a few tumblr minutes and the next thing I knew it was 2:00 a.m.
As I started to view my annoyance that Sage made me rush, the bus came into view and Sage gave me an 'I told you so' look.
Entering the bus I saw the familiar antics that I witnessed daily. The failures all sat in the back quietly talking to each other while the successes noisily joked. As I walked down the aisle towards the back, where I sat with my friends Caspar and Kayla, several successes gave me criticizing looks of distaste.
Taking my seat next to Kayla and Caspar we discussed our excitement and nervousness about the upcoming psychology assignment. We knew that we had an unfair disadvantage as failures and that it was considered an extremely difficult project, but we also realized that understanding behavior was a task that was not taught through a teacher. Psychology was a skill you learned through experience, therefore we knew that if we worked hard we could earn the same grade as a success.
Arriving at school I walked over to my locker and grabbed my books for my morning classes. The day went by uneventful until lunch.
Holding my lunch tray I walked across the cafeteria towards the door that led outside. As I walked past a table of successes I tripped over something and fell over and landed on top of my lunch. I heard laughter and looked up to find a success grinning from ear to ear at me. As I realized that he had tripped me on purpose I also noticed something familiar about him. I couldn't pinpoint where I knew the boy from until a hand reached out to help me up and I came face to face with the boy with mint green hair that had apologized with a big tip the day before. Tyler Oakley, the most popular boy in school.
